All of this is giving me ideas...I may just open up the vent holes...Im sure even a little could help. Then see what I can modify on the vents I picked up...I guess it depends on how hard It is to return to AM...

I have had the open GT350 air box which does not seal well on the hood. Then I went to the GT 500 cover to close the air box. Then I opened up the grill inlet. I have achieved the same performance as the stock GT air box as far as inlet air temps.

Cut the hood, install Race Louvers. Better cooling when moving. Slightly better IAT recovery after sitting in traffic and you get moving. Better front downforce if you need it.

For solving your inlet temp problem? If you have to drive the car, don’t worry about it. How much power do you need to sit in traffic? I would think just enough to run the a/c.

Trying to not be a smart ass, but this is a problem that everyone has and almost no one is too concerned about.

I'm picking up what you're laying down...I think I'll be doing a little cutting, just make the hole a touch bigger...and I have checked out the Rousch vent covers which are actually more open than the ones I got...

I have also thought about opening up the grill inlet...you have any suggestions on how much? I believe I will eventually get a new grill, but until then...I'd like to open it all the way up...

I hope you meant that as satire....
Tiny holes in the hood is what chokes the flow.
With the same hole size, increasing the difference in pressure (in that case, lowering it), will make the speed of the airflow through the hole increase, up to a certain point where air friction and resistance will prevent more air to be extracted.
Increasing the size of the hole will help reducing the speed of the air flow thus reducing that resistance.
So to have maximum extraction we must have the right hole size and louver angle to have a good pressure difference and a good air speed through it.

I installed trackspec vents on my car and cutting through that metal is no fun. Only thing that compared was drilling the holes to mount my BAP. That body metal is damn hard.

I would get a small thing of your paint color code if your going to cut the hood at all. There will be bare metal exposed on the cut ends and its nice to at least have everything the same color under the hood/resist corrosion.

Also, not sure how much it helps but ditching the blanket under the hood I've heard helps. 🤷‍♂️

I'd like to know exactly what it's function actually is.
Is it to insulate motor noise more than anything?

i went with Race Louvers because they have actually gone through the trouble of wind tunnel testing to prove out the concept. Air that enters the grill is allowed to exit the engine compartment through the hood rather than from the engine bay under the car. Along with increased air flow through the radiator due to the pressure on the back of the radiator being lower ( increased delta ) the air flowing over the top of the hood is increased thereby increasing front downforce.

As far as opening up the grill I have not done so. Ford has designed the grill area to provide sufficient air intake. Opening the hood up increases the airflow even more. I think back to the days when NASCAR used to use tape to block off the grill to increase front downforce. It was interesting to see how small of an intake area they actually used to cool the engine. I think that a better track to take is to seal all of the areas around the radiator that allow air into the engine compartment without passing through the radiator thus again increasing the delta. Think in terms of managing the airflow instead of just throwing more air at it and probably increasing drag.

For the average street car driven normally this is all probably not necessary as Ford has designed the car for just such conditions. However, the efficiency of the cooling system can be increased with these types of modifications. I have not seen my cylinder head temps get as high as they had been able to since installing the Race Louvers. Yes, I would install them on another performance oriented car. There is no downside to increasing the efficiency of heat removal.

There is no downside to increasing the efficiency of heat removal.
As long as you allow the engine to operate at its optimal temperature. Heat is both enemy and friend. Too cool and you can increase engine wear, reduce efficiency, sludge forming, unburnt fuel can create acid type corrosion on cylinder walls.

At what point that actually becomes a thing I have no idea though😂

That I assumed 👍 I was adding the comment for the sale of adding it really.

There are some people who think an engine is like a computer processor and that the more they cool it. The better it is 😂
