I have read the posts on hood vents but I haven't seen that anyone has modified the actual hole in the hood. Has anyone done that?
I just picked up the Air Design hood vents ( https://www.americanmuscle.com/air-design-mustang-hood-vents-satin-black-fo24a06.html ) which I think will look great but, I don't think will actually removed more hot air from the engine bay. I am considering cutting out the holes a bit, good idea or no?

The Air Design vents aren’t open any more than the stock vents, unless you remove the closed off honeycomb inserts. So, cutting the hood open more won’t do anything unless you also open up the actual vents too.

The Roush vents that are available for the 2018-2023 cars don’t have those closed off honeycomb inserts (they’re all open to the hood) if you want to go that route.

Thanks! I may be making a return and going Roush. I went with these thinking they were fully vented, little disappointed there. They do look good though, however, I am going more function over looks...are you using them and do they allow for a cooler engine bay? Thanks for the info!

None of these vents really do anything - the restriction is the size of the holes in the hood. Without cutting the hood up you're not going to be able to do anything functional.

Open the hood up if you are really looking for results.

that is my question, has anyone or how many of you have cut the hood, and what were the results…

I have the Air Design vents. They look good but act the same as the stock vents. Since you’re going Roush, I’d suggest to cut the hood open more since their honeycombs are all open. That will help. For maximum venting, you’d want something like TrackSpec vents.

A lot of us did - it provides a moderate benefit while the car is stationary but substantial at speed (and reduces hood lift / provides aero benefit).

What is the issue you're having with car sitting in traffic ? It will get hot but stock cooling system is designed to deal with it just fine. What problem are you trying to solve (since cutting the hood is not pleasant not it is particularly easy and obviously is permanent).

I designed my own vents. I wanted functional cooling but also close to OEM appearance.
Requires cutting both layers of the hood. I also made a drilling template so I didn't have to futz around with a big and flimsy paper template.

Optical distortion or another option, can't tell from the tight closeup?

That photo is of the first 6-louver version. I added it to show a view looking through the louvers into the engine. I have since added a 7th louver, which are the other 3 photos.

First let me say...JLT CAI open box. I had these installed at a local tuner with tune in April, this summer When I had the car out and in traffic my intake temps were hitting 160, and I could tell the car didn't like it. So I'm looking for options, one buy a closed box and retune, make the vents bigger, or a new hood. None of which I'm against. I plan on staying N/A but would like to add some bolts ons for a little more go fast. And I like function first. I like the look of the vents I bought but they won't solve my issue. And if I don't have to spend and arm and a leg Im for it.

If you like the look of vents, get some functional ones (Race Louvers, Trackspec or one's Phillips shows above) and go ahead with cutting your hood. Milwaukee M12 cutoff tool is perfect for this.

CAI aka hot air intake is always an issue and they do absolutely zero on 2018+ cars. so switching to closed box, fabricating a cover or getting a GT500 box could be a solution (that you may need anyway if you cut your hood up).
