I haven't received mine yet but I will run 87 all the time unless some mechanical issue dictates otherwise.

For years I have owned a car that recommends 91 octane or better and it will be nice to get to fill up with the cheap stuff.

I don't run at the track, only public roadways., Only use Sunoco 87oct. and have no pinging etc. seems fine . I think the cpu adjusts for the various fuels and altitudes. I have no plans to go to a higher octane.

On page 127, the owners manual specifically says " Do not use E85".

Lol, I know. When you have larger injectors and a custom E85 tune, it's not a problem. You can't just fill up with E85 and drive it on the stock tune though, so please don't do that.

so...i'm not even close to an expert on this but...

it seems like theres two sides, 87 is fine and use 91 because "don't be cheap".

It seems neither side will change their mind so in that case..what's the point arguing?

Anyway...what a simpleton like me would like to see is...has anyone done a simple 0-60 or whatever logs/test with 87 vs 91? that might solve it once and for all.......

Not quite sure there is a "simple" 0-60 test. What tires are being used? What's the road temperature? What's the experience of the driver? If using launch control, what are the RPM setting? How much time lapsed between the use of 87 octane and 93 octane?
Nope….pretty sure a "simple" test would not be so simple. Just sayin'.

Um, keep everything the same and change only octane. that should be good enough. hey. just sayin. i'm looking for solutions instead of yelling at the other group.

maybe hmm..use the same driver! and more than one test and take the averages of each octanes runs

but yeah..just sayin. looks impossible you're right.

It's pretty simple. The car will run fine on 87, but you'll get a little more power on the stock tune from 93. Neither is bad for the car, so people that think that need to rethink it. 87 octane is not "dirtier" than 93 octane, it just burns quicker, so the car can't run as much timing.

If you're just driving around town all the time, use 87. If you're going to the track, run a couple of tanks of 93 through it before you get there to gain that 10-15ish extra horsepower for a tenth or two quicker pass. If you're road racing, run higher octane to help keep the car below its knock limit under the extended strains of road course sessions. It really is that simple.

If you're awesome, get a custom tune and run E85 all the time for worse fuel mileage, more power, and an exhaust smell akin to Grey Goose.

Here are two links to shut ever one up. They are for the coyote motor not the new 2015 but the 2011+ coyote I can not find anything in the 2015. but it's the same conspect of power lose and hoping the ecu and knocks sensor catch the caca gas and stop the knock and rob power from you. . You lose about 2.5% horse power or 11 horsepower and 3.3% torque or 13 torque on 87 caca gas. For a few bucks more a tank. I'll take the increase.

Hey, I just read the article on wiki about engine knocking.

But I'm not sure if I've ever felt it. What does it feel/sound like?

Anyone have problems with their 5.0s running at 87 yet?

For me, I know that with daily, normal driving there really isn't much of a difference, but I fill it with 93 anyway.
I do because I know it will "feel" slower after I put in 87 the same way it "feels" faster after you wash it! It's a placebo effect.
