Has anyone on this forum actually had any damage done to their engine by a SCT tune? I hear a lot of "I know a guy" claims, but really I'd like to hear first hand accounts. Broken piston rods, damaged heads, etc...
My headliner fell off the day of the day I traded mine in. lol They just took a couple hundred off the value of the car. I had scratches on the wheels from the previous owner so I figured it was fair.
I wouldn't stress about a couple hundred dollars.
All I can add to this thread is I got a P0300 last week on a custom SCT X4 tune. Called the dyno shop, what they suggested is if it happens again, install quality iridium spark plugs and maybe close the gap a bit. I'm on 93 octane.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I was just joking around.
I have a JLT catch can. I wouldn't own a 5.0 without one. I opened mine after 600 miles and poured out about 2 - 3 oz. of oil. :frusty:
Yes. I had it dyno'd at a local shop, the tuner knows some folks at SCT so they had a tune written with SCT's help.
I picked up 45 hp with the tune so I imagine it's a hot tune. I will contact the shop and see what's up. Thanks.
Edit: The shop thinks it's the spark plugs. Says if it happens...
I was running around yesterday and got a P0300. I have a custom tune that SCT helped write with my local shop. I got on it a little bit but not anything crazy.
