That’s INSANE. I didn’t know they were that expensive, and it’s basically a worse S550 Mach 1.ohhhhh I dunno, but I can think of 70-90,000 reasons…

Considering the gt350 and gt500 already exist. That's a bold statement
It's not a statement, it's a personal feeling. I don't force it onto anyone. I started loving S550 with the red PP2 on promo pics but it wasn't sold here. Same for Shelby's. Mach 1 looks even better in the details to me and I know that when something is at 100%, it can only go down in the next makeover. And it did. V8's are unicorns here so future is not bright and had to act. It was now or never. That's a bold statement
DH has expensive options that Mach 1 didn't, like the carbon fiber stuff. Imagine if Ford gave you ceramic brakes for 15k. Or other stuff all the way to GTD basically (price-wise). It was nice to max out Mach 1 spec with just a few ticks. Much unlike BMW M4 for example which started at 100k euro and you could choose another 50k from the catalogue. And I never like the base, wouldn't make me happy. Mach 1 did as it wasn't base but full fat spec. That’s INSANE. I didn’t know they were that expensive, and it’s basically a worse S550 Mach 1.
So the DH is all fluff but the same go. And that’s what made the GT350R special. The GT350R had all the fluff and all the go. The Mach 1 had little fluff and all the go. For their given price, the GT350R and the Mach 1 HP are bargains. The DH doesn’t justify a $80K or $90K price. It's not a statement, it's a personal feeling. I don't force it onto anyone. When introduced 2024 DH's had a MSRP ~1.5-2k higher than similarly equipped 2023 M1's. A local autocrosser here found the same when deciding between a new '23 M1 versus ordering a '24 DH for SCCA F-street. Look at how much M1's increased in '21, '22 and '23. MY22 had multiple price increases during its debut. People on here whined about how much the M1 cost and compared its premium over a GT not to 2021 GT's, but what they paid for past year cars-not apples to apples. The DH does have super expensive options available such as carbon fiber wheels and painted stripes, but you don't have to select those. One thing is for sure: owners of outgoing models will always find reasons to hate the new incoming models because it makes them feel insecure and the Mach 1 is no exception. The same was said in 2018 during the facelift and the same during the 2015 debut of the S550. Look at existing C8 owners hating on the interior changes away from the "wall of buttons", which they criticized before. It all sounds just like M1 owners without the HP option coming up with every reason imaginable as to why the option is not necessary while changing their car to look just like it!So the DH is all fluff but the same go. Maybe in some cases but not all... When it came out the DH was my car with worse looks. After two years my opinion hasn't changed. If I felt insecure I'd just go buy one.One thing is for sure: owners of outgoing models will always find reasons to hate the new incoming models because it makes them feel insecure and the Mach 1 is no exception.
IMO The Dark Horse has several setbacks. When introduced 2024 DH's had a MSRP ~1.5-2k higher than similarly equipped 2023 M1's. TBH, Everyone knows most musclecars look better with bigger wheels, tires and a bigger or more spoilers. That goes back to the old days…. Call it HP or whatever, it looks cool. Not everyone might want to deal with other things that come along with it though. When introduced 2024 DH's had a MSRP ~1.5-2k higher than similarly equipped 2023 M1's. Not sure if Ford is trying to out price everyday Joe mustang owners with the DH but it’s very close to the Mach 1. The GT500 rods/pistons and 20+ hp plus the Trefeo tires are the biggest performance differentiators.IMO The Dark Horse has several setbacks.
- 4,000 lbs weight (unacceptable)
- cheap screens with poor design (similar to the BMW screens but inferior quality)
- overpriced (DH shouldn’t cost more than a Mach 1 when it weighs more)
I think Ford is trying to price out the typical Mustang demographics, in a stupid attempt to elevate the Mustang brand to a Corvette level status. Jim Farley (who came from Porsche) envisions Mustang as some sort of Porsche brand (cue in ridiculous GTD). He will destroy this great American icon.
Chevrolet did the same thing with the C8.Not sure if Ford is trying to out price everyday Joe mustang owners with the DH but it’s very close to the Mach 1. The GT500 rods/pistons and 20+ hp plus the Trefeo tires are the biggest performance differentiators.
The next performance variants will be huge. I’m looking forward to the new SVT Cobra variant. Just hope they don’t price it $100k plus. I said this before, if they do I will probably go c8 z06 next.
The Corvette that starts at $68k and can be had well under MSRP?Chevrolet did the same thing with the C8.
