Today, (had no work today) was the day I was going to get to the bottom of what sounds like a bad wheel bearing. I have a hum that becomes noticeable at maybe 20 mph and increases frequency as speed rises. This happens when going straight, in right turns but disappears while making left turns. Sounds like a wheel bearing if I've ever heard one. Ordered hub/bearing assemblies on Amazon by Moog. This is for the EB coupe work car.

I got the front end up on jackstands and checked for play with the wheels still on. No play and no noise while spinning. No looseness on either side. Tie rods tight and no play to be found on either side. Tires wearing evenly with just a tiny bit of feathering on the outsides. I started taking the drivers side apart, noticed the brakes were about 80% worn out and realized I didn't even have the correct (32mm??) Socket for the spindle nut.

I reassembled everything annoyed and confused slightly and got the car back on the ground. Then I checked the rear wheels for any play. Nothing again. Left/right up/down no movement. Tires worn evenly.

This is more than tire noise and besides, if it were tires, I don't think it would go silent on left hand turns. The volume doesn't change going straight or making right hand sweepers. This is odd.

Well, I went with my second set of Conti DWS06s. 255/40r19 front and 285/35r19 rear. I know some have mentioned that they wished these tires had a quicker steering response. I'm finding that if you run the front tires 2 psi or so higher than your normal that they have a very quick steering response. Not only are these tires grippy and responsive, but they are super smooth and refined. And best yet, they are cheaper than the comparative Michelins.

Love Continentals. Mine came with some new import tires, which are fine for now. But, will be going back to some Continentals or Michelins in the future. How’s the ride on these?

I doubt it. A bad pinion bearing would make a howling that would vary at speed/frequency but not disappear in left turns.

The ride is smooooth and quiet. Even at higher speed...

Couldn't be something as simple as the disc dust shields needed to be bent out a little bit, could it?

Probably not, but thought I'd ask.

Mine made a motorboat sound at those speeds. Bearing had no play. Noise gone after exchange. If your car is at least 20k miles then the bearing is my #1 suspect.

I was thinking the same thing being the car now has 68K on the clock.

I wish it was so simple. It's a moaning not metallic sound that the volume of the sound doesn't really change just the frequency increases with speed. It's probably a bearing even though there was no play.

I put on a set of 19x10/11 SVE DHP1 in Graphite wheels with Firestone Indy 500 tires.

I think they look fantastic, and those back tires are massive.
