Got my Velgen VF5s in 19x10/19x11 gloss gunmetal yesterday afternoon. Just an fyi for everyone, mine are heavier than advertised. Velgen states 22-23 lbs for both front and year. Mine were 24.2/24.4 front and 24.8/25.0 rear. I weighed them each twice. That was on a scale that is a little light in that weight range. My scale weighs a 22 lb and a 27.5 lb dumbell both about .2 lb light.

Im gonna keep them cause thats still way lighter than the OEM HP wheels. But had i known the weight i may have stuck with my original plan of SVE M1 HP replica wheels for less $ and 1 - 1.5 lb lighter each, or saved a bit more $ for 3-4 months and gotten forged wheels.

I drive mine year round. It’s a blast in the fresh snow. Today was too much though, that chin spoiler would’ve been acting like a snow plow 🤣
I've become a baby, I just drive my Taurus whenever it's wet out or actively snowing, lol. The car is fun in the snow but I don't trust other people anymore. We're currently getting slammed so hard that some of the ski resorts have closed, lol.

Time for the top side cowl and strut tower braces (I bought a stripper manual GT). I was able to source used parts for the cowl mounting plate and cowl brace which is great.

I ordered new nylon nuts for the strut tower (W712334-S440) and the three bolts for the cowl mounting plate (W717964-S450B).

I decided to remove the battery tray and cowl trim so that everything could receive a moderate detailing. It is only one bolt to remove the battery, three bolts to remove the battery box, and then lift the cowl trim straight up to the ceiling and out as it attached via a tongue and groove.

The cowl trim soaking in 303 Protectant to bring everything back to jet black and provide UV protection.

Nice and new jet black trim.

All zipped back up and ready for back country roads.

Installed the Steeda H pipe since it was reasonably warm yesterday.

It's 10-15 degrees (Fahrenheit) and it is sitting so I put it on the trickle charger........... I cant wait for the Pilot Sports to wear out and I can put all season Performance tires on the car and I can enjoy it on dry (no snow) cold days........... I'm at 20K and looks to have at LEAST another 10K so two more years ;-)

My son in his 2007 on his way home from work yesterday. No one was hurt and he doesn't think there is any true damage. He lives about 40 minutes from me and doesn't have a garage, so I don't know when we are going to be able to get under it and check it out. I told him he learned a very valuable lesson-> Mustangs SUCK in the snow. I told him to put 150-200lbs of sand bags or cinder blocks in the trunk.

That sucks, glad nobody was hurt. Just remember when putting weight in the trunk, if you get in an accident physics takes over. if the car is moving and comes to a sudden stop, that weight will have to go somewhere if it’s not strapped down.

FWIW, I’ve not had any issues with Mustang in the snow with my snow tires and no extra weight in back. Not sure what kind of tires your son has on the car but a true snow/winter tire does help considerably. If he hit ice, unfortunately it doesn’t matter what vehicle you’re in, ice usually wins that one.

Most RWD cars do, it's all about tires and speed in the winter. FWIW, with fold down seats, I wouldn't put cinder block in the trunk. Sandbag maybe, but the best thing he can do is slow down, drive like grandma is in the passenger seat.

Glad no one was hurt.

Water softener salt in the trunk, can always open the bag and use it in a pinch on ice for traction.

Just my opinion but I don’t really think extra weight in the trunk is needed for these cars. Light on the throttle from a stop and just drive for conditions with the appropriate tires and they do just fine.

The biggest difference you can make is buying dedicated snow / Blizzak style snow tires. They're expensive, but not as much as wadding up your car. Game changers.
