Nobody likes Mach 1's

When the 24's hit the street, I wonder how long before some tries to make the dual intake work on a Mach 1

I would think that would be a very low bang for buck mod. But, it looks badass, and that's enough reason for plenty of people to spend money on it.

How much better would M1 have sold with the dual intake 5.0? Agree the performance jump really isn't all that much (I think in reality it is single intake unless you are really getting on it) but as you said, it looks cool and feels special. One of the biggest gripes on the M1 from some people was that it didn't have a different "bespoke" engine. That would have addressed that claim.

No one would trade a Mach 1 for a DH if that Dual intake was in the Mach 1 though. Most people I have talked to hate the headlights and the screens...so we are back to S650 needed something! Guess if you want the GT350 brakes?

I feel like a lot of people wanted the shaker hood (which I know there is a mod for) but it would’ve really set the car apart had it been unique for it from the factory

Is the MACH 1 geared lower than the Bullitt? Sure seems so in this video. Sounds great though, and the car seems to have perfect manners for canyon carving.

I find the long gearing makes 3rd gear a fantastic canyon carver gear, but the few times he went into 4th makes me think the M1 is geared lower. 7K in 3rd in the Bullitt is 120+ and I doubt he was going that fast.

I have toyed with the idea of a M1, but not a big fan of the sticker package. Was the same for the GT 350. I'm not a fan of stripes and stickers, and why I was drawn to the Bullitt. It is the Fighter Jet Gray that really draws me. I may end up getting the Bullitt wrapped in FJG I like it so much.

Good question, but I believe both are 3.73s, I'm not too familiar with the Bullitts. IMO the GT350s has more of a European flavor to it, hence the FPC with a great sound of it's own (mimicking a Ferrari). The Mach 1 HP is a GT350 with a 5.0 and more of an American muscle flavor...hence the stock exhaust sound and even the stance. It's amazing just how many different variants of a Mustang are made...Ford is so good at it.

As far as the Dark Horse vs. Mach 1... it's no comparison. Until Ford removes the locked ECU and the Fully Networked Vehicle (FNV) platform from the S650...the S550 will be always be the best for consumers. Which is why I'm looking get a GT500 to add to the stable or maybe a C7 Z06, before they become more difficult to get.

The reason the bullit and 350 are geared differently is in the transmission itself. The bullit had the MT82-D4 which uses fourth gear as a 1 to 1 and has a double overdrive. the 350 uses the tremec and has 5th as 1 to 1 and single overdrive. Both cars have 3.73's in the rear axle.

You might be correct about most people will not modify their Mach 1's, but I had my modified before I even took delivery of the vehicle. It is a track car after all, and suspension upgrades are something I believe that people who track their car will look into. Though I didn't only do suspension upgrades. I built the car like I wanted to, and I don't regret any of it.

I saw your youtude video. I like the carbon fiber touches you added to your vehicle. I believe that you have Motorsport and Performance (MAP) in your area. They are a Steeda licensed performance shop also. I love their videos.

Yes, MAP did the headers, cats, ECU tune, steering wheel, gear selector and motor mounts. GT101 did the exterior mods. Both great shops.

that sounds like the most reasonable guess as to why the M1 got the dual faux openings in the grill I've heard yet.

I remember pics of the M1 being the mule for the DH dual intake engine, although it was't explicitly mentioned. There were so many speculations - 4WD, hybrid drive, etc.

It doesn't make sense to introduce new engine and ecu at the end of the lifecycle of a model. You would go in the next gen. The 4WD or hybrid will come as mid generation update. I guess the mule with the center placed exhaust we saw spied recently, may be because they've introduced some tech on the rear wheels as instant boost that will take the 0-60 to the next level, but it needs some more space there and the pipes get in the way.
I remember ford filed a patent for hybrid wheel - you get kind of electric motor on the wheel and it gives you the immediate boost while the engine catches up, then recovers power while the engine spins the same wheel...
The M1 I guess was the prototype to be tested the overall platform as we see a lot of things carried over from it.

And on the topic of the parts bin - the very first mustang was a parts bin back then... I will post the story if I find it, but basically this is how Iaccocca reduced the cost of the 1st mustang and pushed it to Henry Ford 3rd

The Faster Horse Documentary alludes to the first mustang being a parts bin car...sharing parts with the Falcon because the budget they received for the car was pretty minimal.

Being serious though, it wont be that easy because of the ECU, which also happens to be locked... The existing ECU won't handle both air sensors...

For me, I don't care all that much because I bought a mustang to modify it. When I see a Mach 1, GT350, or GT500 I see a collector car. It's nice, but in my own eyes I wouldn't modify it so I don't really look for what has been done to it.

The GT trim is when I would be asking the owner a bunch of questions. When I custom ordered my 2021, I made sure to option it with what I needed to start modding without a headache. 3.55 gearing, 401a interior, and the twister orange paint code with blackout package.

Now my car is truly my own after my own mods and it doesn't feel like I've tainted the car. The regular s550 is an open canvas whereas the Mach 1 is someone else's painting.

Yes my 2002 Mustang GT I modded the crap out of it, lol. My 2023 Mach 1 I have only changed the air filter, cabin air filter, black lug nuts, Ford Performance center caps, and Ford Performance (GT 350R) Strut Tower Brace. This is probably all I will do to it for mods.

I've had the same exact experience with my Bullitt at a bunch of cars and coffee and shows. Very few people recognize it for what it is.

Every once in a while someone will say oh a Bullitt. Same with my 912. Only TRUE enthusiastas get it and that's fine by me

The 912 was Ferry Porsche's favorite car because the 912 with the 4cyl was better balanced than the 911 w/ the 6. My BIL had a 912 that he restored to concours level. Very cool little car
