Just reading the comments and passing on my observations from reading the forum :

A) The resonator does have a crossover, but it’s somewhat restrictive when compared to a pipe - there is a passage for gas in the bottom compartment (referencing the photo further up this thread) i.e

B) Just because the standard resonator is straight through, it doesn’t mean that benefits can’t be found from swapping it out.

There are absolutely benefits from swapping it out due to the scavenging effects of a true point for gasses to merge and alternate exhaust pulses. However, are you suggesting that the initial chamber with perforated sections on both tubes is a crossover?

The structural mounting brackets in the picture are just that. Not crossovers. We cut open the one off my Mach 1.

I’m not suggesting they are a crossover for flow, but I think Ford engineered it do with the sound - maybe the perforations in the small compartment help sound crossover and council out some frequencies or harmonics etc.

I think everyone is well aware that Ford will cut cost wherever possible and adding the the extra partition rather than just equally spacing the two large compartments must be done for good reason - it just doesn’t make sense otherwise.

Look at how the perforations are spaced. One small compartment that’s shared and then the perforations divorce with one bank in each compartment.

neat. what does the resonator do precisely? just add tone?
I thought that I had read somewhere that the resonator application was designed primarily to accommodate the European market, as certain countries have fairly stiff noise restrictions.

The two large passages communicate through the structure brace, they aren't sealed.

I’ve had this on my PC for a while (I found it on here). 18lbft @ 3000 :

That was my 2018 M6. Numbers were down a little on the afternoon pulls as the DA was higher and the car was a little more heat soaked (I had driven about 60 miles at 80mph with A/C on just before those pulls). But, it does show you can’t just look at the peak numbers, you have to look at the curve down low to see the real gains from the H-pipe (Steeda in my case).
