There's a 2019 1LE with 9000 miles on it for sale 10 minutes from my house. I must be a shallow superficial person but even though it slightly outperforms all the Mustangs, I can't even make myself go test drive it because I can't get past the looks (from outside OR inside, I have test driven a base SS). Its the perfect car analogy to a blind date who is described as "she's got a great personality." Love the wheel but just can't get past the body. I like taking my car to shows and people just walk right past 1LE's but are interested in Mustangs. My 19 yr old son's observation of the 1LE is, it doesn't look much different than a regular car, and that black hood looks stupid. Granted, one person's opinion. It's kind of similar with C8 Corvettes - better performance but I'd rather have a Mach 1 because you can't get a manual in the C8. But if you want a dedicated track car it would like a no-brainer to get a 1LE.
wrap her candy apple red and put some chrome on it and you'll get some looks!

You're over-reacting. Factory has been closed for 2 months, this is not your ordinary situation (GM has closed factories too), the availability of various parts is a serious problem right now for most car makers, we have the same problems in Europe too. Someone else may get sooner date because he has some less problematic combination of parts, or it's just buzz and he'll get delayed, don't let that concern you one bit.

PS: Check this review/opinion on this question at 24:41, love this guy, he's a GM fanboy btw.

yeah agree , what a great unbiased review !

Pretty solid review. Interesting to hear his positive take given his admission of being a Chevy guy at heart.

working on a 2% under invoice deal on a 2021 SS 1LE 2SS with sunroof and data recorder that would be about $6K less than the M1. Can’t imagine changing teams like this. Would probably buy the M1 too and just resell it if I like the 1LE better, or trade the 1LE on the M1 if it ever gets here.
Actually this is a very good idea. I did the DD Roulette with 4 cars back in 2019/20 and you get to appreciate the various strengths and weaknesses often enough that they solidify, as opposed to imagined.

I'll drive to Pitt and give you my personal opinion of the 2 cars. :) Haven't seen Squirrel Hill in 25 years. What color 2SS?

Yeah seems a little risky as far as the amount of money involved vs my income but you're right, even with a good 30-45 minute test drive there are things you don't notice till you've had the car for a while.

Satin steel which is I guess like the Magnetic Mustangs? Here's the window sticker:

Yeah, if you want to feel old come on back and take a walk or ride through Squirrel Hill and Oakland. I hardly recognize any businesses anymore. And everyone looks like they should be in junior high.

If the car is your weekend or track toy I would strongly strongly consider the SS 1/2LE.

We don't have it here in Europe :(, for the price you get the 1LE for and the dynamic performance you get is bonkers good!

Also don't they offer lifetime drivetrain warranty? I thought I saw that somewhere

Not that I know of. But they don't bitch and moan when you have the NERVE to take your car to the track. Unlike Ford which disclaims all track use "for the most track capable car". Not saying Ford has a history of denying claims for breakage resulting from track use. But it's right there in black and white in Ford's case.

Can’t believe Ford is making me do this with their continual parade of shipment delays on my Mach 1 but shits about to get real… working on a 2% under invoice deal on a 2021 SS 1LE 2SS with sunroof and data recorder that would be about $6K less than the M1. Can’t imagine changing teams like this. Would probably buy the M1 too and just resell it if I like the 1LE better, or trade the 1LE on the M1 if it ever gets here.
Well predictably the dealer now confesses the Camaro is actually in transit, not on the lot… sigh.

Gee, at my age a daily is something to celebrate

The only reason to drop a model is poor sales, so why the poor sales. Is it quality, or appeal, or something else that makes the Camaro fall short in sales.
Now the SS/1LE may be a better track car than any other Mustang out there, but they have to sell cars to stay in the game.
Around here I keep an eye open for the big 3 for an unofficial count of the most popular V8 pony cars (Camaro, Challenger, and Mustang). Challengers are probably the most popular (had one of those too, it was a 1970 340,4spd). Mustang GT's are next, and I've even seen a GT500. RS, and SS Camaro's especially the SS are almost as rare as my PP2.
I happen to think the SS is a good looking car, but I've owned one 85, Z28 and I wasn't ready for another Chevy. Could that change in the future; probably not, but who knows.
I loved my 70 Challenger. It was my first car. Had more fun with that car than any other. Would I get another Challenger? Not if it even ate Corvettes and pooped Porsche's.
Sooooo not true. FWIW, I worked a couple decades in GM Product Portfolio Planning, mostly on powertrain related stuff and was in the room when the decisions were made to mothball the Camaro after 2002. Sales was probably 4th or 5th on the reasons list. For 6th gen Camaro, sales will be at best 3rd on the list. Since I’m no longer at GM I can say what’s on the list without getting fired

  1. Camaro shares platform and plant with Cadillac CT4 and CT5. Both of those vehicles will be battery electric by 2025.
  2. Partially because of #1, partially just because they can, GM will introduce a battery electric sports car.
  3. Maybe sales. Maybe.

So the Blackwing will be all of a 4 year run? Or they'll drink the EV coolaid for the downmarket models and keep the ICE for the people who don't have their head up their ass? I see a major about-face on the whole stupid EV front by 2025-30.

This debate is quite interesting. I remember where my love for Fords came from. My dad worked 72 hours a week at a shoe repairing store that he owned back in the early 60s. The neighbor across the street worked at Chevrolet and beat the crap out of his kids. Although maybe not his fault because he was in Reading during world war II in the Pacific theater he was a cruel SOB. His kids are of a similar age one ended up in prison long-term but the others were all screwed up and devious. So he was the Chevy guy in my family were the Ford guys. So that's what I remember growing up. It isn't logical it's just emotional. Then when I think of Ford having to suffer through the '08-09 and 10 horrible markets but not selling their soul to the government made me a customer for life.

On top of that Ford's technology is superior to any other us automaker by far. Back in the early '70s when I would drag race the biggest idiots always drove Chevys and that was a fact. Of course Chevrolet dominated the markets back then so it makes sense because they owned the US market. The truth is Chevy makes some nice stuff, it's just not for me.

I admit, I will not own the best vehicles because I have loyalty. Loyalty to my wife, loyalty for my family, loyalty to my God. It just doesn't matter that something slightly better on a piece of paper it's what I want to own and I'm an American and I can buy what I want.
Wow. You really oughta be careful with that comment. It’s very easily disproven. HUD, PDR, heated / cooled Recaros, eDiff. All things you can get on the luddite Camaro 1LE that you can’t get on any Mustang at any price. Mustangs can now get the no-lift shift that Camaros got in 2016. For my car in particular, I love the no-stop drop-top that I can raise or lower at speeds up to 31 mph or lower remotely from my key fob. There’s more, but I’ll just leave it at those. Other than the no-stop drop-top thing, all the other features are in the “difference” column when comparing the 1LE to any Mustang.

Correct. Blackwing will be about a 4 year run. I mis-spoke a bit, so let me correct that now. Cadillac being all electric by 2030 , but still, CT4 / CT5 will transition by 2025. The only ICE Cadillacs between 2026 - 30 will be Escalade. I had forgotten about that. Cadillac going all BEV by 2030. Cadillac VP quoted. An about face is not in the cards. From my perspective, the biggest question is will GM really move all trucks to BEV or Fuel Cell by 2035 if they’re still printing Benjamin’s with every 6.2L or 3.0D version that they sell.
