Since I don't want a DCT and prefer a manual transmission it misses the mark for what I want as far as the transmission goes.
FYI, it's not a DCT, it's just a "regular" 8-speed automatic (though modern autos are pretty awesome, they're not quite what a DCT offers (see GT500 :D)

tune and downpipe and one just hit 10.79. My old boss picked one up for his company. It’s much faster then we both thought it would be. His is tuned by delicious tuning, KW coil overs and some bracing. From a roll I think I’d get him but not from a dig with the tires I have on. I haven’t got to talk to him today about it but last night word is he got a stock A10 in at least a 1/8th they didn’t have anymore room. We are going to try and go this weekend and do some fun runs
Pretty impressive

Thanks for the correction. I don't know why I thought it was a DCT. Maybe just due to what most other BMWs are equipped with. Last year I test drove an M4 with a DCT, so I guess I was assuming that BMW would have put DCT in this drivetrain as well. I thought the Supra was supposed to be a premium product with the best equipment on it for some reason.

Hahaha, I had to look it up again! I was going to say it wasn't then wasn't even sure myself :D

Yeah, it's odd, maybe cost, packaging[?]

I think most thought it had a DCT everyone talked about a DCT. It even farts between shifts like a DCT. Driving it is close, but not quite as fast, that’s where you really notice it. It’s not as fast as a PDK or anything. But if you’ve never been in a DCT car I can see how some think it is.

I've been in a few DCT cars, Porsche, BMW and a Ferrari and I might not notice anyway. I've only driven any of them briefly, so I didn't really absorb all the nuances.

The farting is part of why I assumed the Supra was a DCT. Nasty noises that thing makes.

What dyno is used for lots of part/engine testing? Lots of different manufacturers in different locations out there bud. What about folks dynoing cars using STD correction? What tire pressure was Car A running vs. Car B? What about temperature, humidity, engine oil temp, etc. etc.

A dyno is a measurement device yes, but it's best used for tuning. Any slapdick running around bragging/comparing about peak dyno numbers is about as ignorant as it gets.
I know this old but I have to like this!

Here's a few facts that are worth mentioning:

The current Supra (2023) uses the latest version of the BMW B58 engine, which puts out 382 hp at the wheels and is underrated. Most will dyno around 400whp. The 2019 model was rated at 330 hp.

The B58 Supra and BMW Z4 are available with manual transmission, now.

The ZF 8 speed auto is replacing DCT transmissions in many applications, as it is stronger and more durable than a DCT and just as fast. ZF is also the company that makes the PDK and C8 DCT. Jaguar, BMW and brands have replaced the DCT with the ZF 8 speed auto. I've had both the ZF 8 speed and the PDK. I'll take the ZF 8 speed.

I can explain some reasoning behind some of this. #1 - it's ugly and filled with 10 fake vents, basically, every vent you see is a fake. #2 - it's mostly BMW, and people expected a Toyota, so it doesn't have the same vibe as if it was a wholly developed by Toyota car. #3 - It barely has more power than the 22 year old turbo Supra. GT has more than doubled in power since then. #4 - the proportions are way off. It's too much like a Scion FRS that was never actually a good looking car.

Overall, I think most people think it is underwhelming compared to what it should have been.
Yikes, I was harsh. Classic case of don’t judge something by a few photos. Turns out I actually like the Supra quite a bit (I have a ‘22 3.0) and it performs really well. And as others have stated it’s underrated power wise by likely 35+ hp. It’s a fun alternative and quite the change up from my ‘21 ZL1.

I agree to an extent - ZF 8 speed over the DCT. I'm still a manual guy at heart so I'd go manual. The ZF 8 speed (8HP70 in my case) is used in my 2015 Ram and I dearly love the way it shifts and the way it's held up under my use. I wish even more vehicles used that transmission.

The Supra has gotten a lot better mechanically since this thread started, with a manual transmission available and a more powerful engine. I seriously considered buying one last year, but once I sat in it I realized it's just too small inside for me.

The GR86 I owned at the time is much, much better ergonomically for a somewhat tall person. I'm only 6'4", but the Supra interior is TIGHT!

I like the Supra on paper, but it seems like it's only viable as a second or third car for most people. I sometimes toy with the idea of trading in the Mach 1 for it, but I've heard the car is more sterile feeling to drive on the street (i don't track at the moment). That and the claustrophobic cabin always make me reconsider lol.

The BMW M2/M240i seems like a better fun daily than the Supra and an alternative to a Mustang, although it doesn't look half as good on the outside and is more expensive...

Get a Z4 M40i. The interior is much better with lots of room and you can always put the top down. But, they are kind of expensive new.

tune/downpipe runs pretty good, 11.4 @ 118

four year old video and I didn't pay attention to see if it was 93 or E85, I'm sure they are at least a little quicker these days

sounds like you need a bigger turbo to go much past 500whp and the trans is next at over 600?

Supra needs more power and a manual transmission before I would even consider it. The styling certainly doesn't sell the car IMO.
It looks like the Mk. VI's designers started drawing at the front, got carried away and finally realized they were running out of car, so they just slapped an abbreviated tail on the thing and hit "print."

Should've just kept the old Supra in production.
