Top gear tests are so stupid. In an auto trans, it'll shift. In a manual, it doesn't. Why do they even include this?

But good read, and expected result. Supra might be better for a daily, but the manual Voodoo GT350 is a better drivers car.

I'm very impressed with the roadholding capabilities of the Supra on Super Sports.

My takeaway here is that the Supra is a pretty damn good car....

Correct. Drivers cars have manual transmissions.

Putting a GT350 into 6th gear at 30 mph and then running an acceleration test is abuse: plain and simple. I kept mine out of 6th unless I was driving more than 65 mph. And even accelerating heavily at 65 it should be in 5th or 4th gear.

I agree a manual transmission is better for a driver's car, but smaller size and lighter weight are also better for a driver's car.

I'm 100% with you on that one. Drivers car = small, lightweight, manual trans, good suspension, great brakes.

It's not abuse. It just won't go. The ECU adjusts the timing, fuel, and cam advance to prevent any damage. The whole high load, low RPM damaging motor concern is so dated and no longer relevant.

It has probably been noted before: the GT350 is a $25,000 car with a lot of options; the Supra is a $55,000 car. It is amazing how far the base Mustang platform can be taken. The same idea applies to C8 Corvette comparisons, it's a $59,995 car.

WRONG. A REAL driver's car has all that plus manual-steering, a carbureted motor, laughably skinny bias ply tires, non-synchronized transmission, no AC, an AM only radio, leaf spring suspension, and a crank start. Did I miss anything?

GT350 should run circles around the Supra around a road coarse. Supra is not even a match to camaro ss 1le.

YEA. The point. That isn't a drivers car. It's an old TRACK car. What you are describing would pretty much suck as a daily DRIVERS car.

The point was to poke fun at the notion that only this or that feature makes a "driver's" car. Anything can be a driver's car if it gets driven for the joy of driving. Drivers make the car, not the parts and pieces.

Why the fuck would anyone do that... You want to waste money replacing a brand new clutch?... Cause that's how you end up buying a brand new clutch...

These morons coming up with these tests need their asses beat..

The GT350 is the car I'd buy. Thats not even a question

If you lug the engine, you will hear a rumbling noise from the piston skirts hitting the cylinder walls. You'll never convince me that a noise like that doesn't have any wear or damage associated with it.

I wish you were right about the ECU preventing engine damage from lugging. If I were responsible for tuning the engine I would prevent the throttle from opening in that situation. The timing, fuel and cam advance are not enough to prevent the rumbling noise from occurring at low rpm, high gear, accelerator pedal stuffed to the floor. The ECU doesn't do that.

Saw my first one yesterday, at Costco of all places. Did a walk around and quite frankly not impressed. The numbers say it’s a good car but I would rather see a Mustang in my driveway.

I was at a huge Cars and Coffee yesterday. There were a couple Supras on display on the way home on a main highway I came upon one that had been there. I was in my 02 Z06 my son was behind me in my 16 GT. As I got up on him he ran, I was glued to his bumper my son blew by both of us and I was able to pull on him and start to pass when we had to slow for traffic. After it opened up again I guess he had enough as he stayed at a steady 70.
