The twin-scroll turbo will definitely limit top-end performance, it just doesn't have enough capacity. A Pure 800 (or similar) would be a significant improvement. However, the twin-scroll design is always going to be the limiting factor. So, real serious horsepower it will require a lot more than just replacing the turbo. The ZF 8 speed auto can handle a lot more. I know a couple guys running over 700 whp in the Z4 M40i with no issues.

four year old video and I didn't pay attention to see if it was 93 or E85, I'm sure they are at least a little quicker these days
sounds like you need a bigger turbo to go much past 500whp and the trans is next at over 600?
