When to change oil?

Hello brothers!
I have a 2019 Mustang GT with only 800 miles. My father said I Should change my oil after break in period and that is how they did it when he was growing up.

I read the manual and it does not say when to change first oil rather to go by the oil life sensor I guess.

I was hearing the famous BBQ tick yesterday from the wheel well and read forums that thinner oils can do this. I think the factory is 5w20.

Am I wasting money to change oils early? I have always used Mobil 1 in my BMW and Mercedes and replaced it at 10k with no issues. Both have over 100 k Miles.

I've got about 1600 or so miles on mine with the factory fill still in it. I'm planning to do the first oil change around maybe 3500 miles not sure yet. These cars tick and/or rattle. Mine rattles like old Hell at about 2500 RPM. I don't believe for a second that changing to an oil grade that Ford does not recommend will somehow magically cure that. Or if I had changed my oil 8 seconds after buying it would have prevented the noise either. In the end do what you are comfortable with. When I was on the Camaro forum if you didn't change the oil and diff fluid a couple of times by 1000 miles the car was going to blow up LOL. I didn't do either and the car was fine.

The other thing is I often wonder if the factory fill could be a little different to aid in break-in or earlier engine time beyond that in which case it could be better to leave it in for a bit. Not saying it is I'm just saying I've wondered.

I changed mine at like 6,000. Get some use out of the factory fill at least.

I waited until 4k to do my first change and have gone 4-5k between oil changes since then. I drive it hard and haven't had any issues. 15k miles and 3 oil changes in. If it make you feel better change it after break in but I dont thinks its neccessary. a lot of things have changed since our fathers wrenched on cars!

So, this car does not have a 5000 - 7500 mile oil change interval. The recommendation is 10,000 miles, but the oil sensor will tell you when it needs to be changed sooner than that, based on temperature and driving.

Since you're in Orlando, I'd err closer to the 7500 mile mark for changes, if you're using a good oil, like Amsoil, Royal Purple, Mobil 1 High Mileage, or other high quality synthetic, and lower than that for cheaper oils, or conventional/semi-synthetics. As for first change, I'd wait until you hit the 3000 mile mark, then swap out the oil. I believe the 2015 - 2017 Coyote specs 5W-20, and the 2018+ is 0W-20.

Are you wasting money to change oils early? Probably. But I do it anyway, and open the filter (the first time) to check for metal. After that I go to the recommended change frequency or annually if that comes up first.
It is still 5W-20.

I did the oil change after break in 1k miles. The oil that came out was a clear amber and obviously was barely used. I have all the rattles people dread as well and I'm at 2600 miles. Put in 10 quarts of Royal Purple 5w20 full synthetic. Other than the sounds, car does everything it's supposed to do when I want it to.

I'm at 4,000 miles on the factory oil in my 19 GT and I plan to change the oil when the oil life monitor tells me I'm at around 30%. Right now she's at 47%. It won't hurt anything to change it sooner as there's no magic to the factory filled oil, but with that said my 5.0 is quiet and rattle/tick/squeak free so I'm not messing with anything just yet.

For now, I regularly check my oil level to make sure I'm not burning any of those 10 quarts off and it still looks nice and clean on the dipstick. For the first change I'm going to run the factory 5w-20 Motorcraft semi synth and then once I'm out around 10,000 miles I'm switching to Mobil 1 full Synthetic.

I'm just curious if anyone who changed their oil on the 19 was able to buy oil that actually met the specification in the manual. I had to go to a Ford dealer to buy a quart of their 5W20 to have in case I need to add some oil to my factory fill. Here in Canada no oil meets the new spec at least where it says that they do & that includes Mobil 1 etc.

Basically this new Ford oil spec is to combat LSPI (Low Speed Pre Ignition) which surprised me when I read up on it. I thought that was just an Ecoboost issue. All the oils say they meet Ford WSS-M2C945-A but not the one circled in the pic of the oil I bought. So I'm wondering if anyone who is changing their oil with anything other than Motorcraft is jeopardizing their warrranty? The stuff was cheap so it isn't fancy oil I'm sure either LOL.

It even notes it prevents piston damage which I 'm sure relates to the LSPI condition? Basically WSS-M2C945-B1 replaces the previous WSS-M2C945-A and evn the dealer said this is a new thing I think just starting this year.

I just changed mine at just over 2000miles. My oil life indicator was at 24%. It was a bit blacker than I expected for 2Kmi, so glad i did it. I haven't cut open my filter yet, but did take a close look at some of the residual oil coming out of it after I drained it. The most I saw were a few metallic flakes about the size of powder. I'm good with that from a brand new engine. I did break it in by the book. I put in 5w30 full synthetic oil.

I did 3100 miles and Ford did another complimentary change at 6600 when they put in new cam phasers. Car burns zero oil. Occasional ticks do not bother me. Car rips...

I'm going to do mine around the 3k mark the same as you did.

Around 5k on first oil change here, over 6k right now and watching oil life monitor (still over 40%). Probably will change around 7500 this time around. I get great fuel mileage in my car, I run Pennzoil 5w-20 Ultra Platinum and Mobil 1 M1-212A filter. I also run Mobil 93 octance or Shell V-power 93 in a pinch. Highly suggest adding the oil seperator on the passenger side if you haven't done so yet.
