All that wait for a rather boring car. Sheesh...

But it’s an important reveal. If your in the biz that was the moment!

Seats 7.

0-6 in 3.5 seconds.

280 miles of range.

Top speed 150mph

All of the above is only for the performance version.

“Ultimately, time will tell if this engine will be a hit with the performance-minded set. We envision many aftermarket parts, but the real hope is that Ford Performance Parts recognizes our desire for horsepower and offers the 7.3L in a drop-in crate engine package. With a performance intake, cam and FPPS popular Control Pack this would make a wicked-good option for any racer or street enthusiast.”

Thanks for the link, as this is the most detailed yet! They have a more positive attitude to its use for performance applications. Well what do you know. There may be hope for this engine after all...

What created my interest in the 7.3 liter V8 is that engineer Brian Wolfe was involved in the development of the engine. As I recall, Brian was the Ford engineer who spearheaded the movement to use the 302 cubic inch powered Fox body Mustang as a drag racer. After reading about the 7.3 liter V8 and seeing the pictures of the 7.3 liter V8 , I get the feeling the 7.3 liter engine is a drag race engine altered to become a truck engine. I see a big potential for the 7.3 liter engine to be a great bracket racing engine for the dragstrips. After the 7.3 liter V8 becomes more plentiful , I will look for a 2005-2007 Mustang without an engine and install a 7.3 liter engine in it ,

And is $$$ so it will grab the initial crave and that's it, until it gets cheaper. The economy is not booming by the standards/things important to average Joe.

Man, that was a late night...

It will start at 39,000USD. It’s a crossover so this reveal was an important one and everyone was watching this event that had anything to do with cars.

This does matter as tons of money are being spent in electrification by all automakers and the future of growth, profitability, and ultimately jobs are at stake and Tesla is still the gold standard they will compare their vehicles to.

Even if you are not into electric cars I can tell you people were more than a little nervous to see what that car was all about and whether there were any big surprises not expected. There were none so a boring reveal is probably a relief to most.

Apparantly the twin motor version is fast in a straight line and in the corners...

Is it true, I’m finally getting some support in this thread! :like:

Some engines come in with a lot of fan fare and then give you less than expected. This one seems to be the reverse and will probably be better than the early naysayers are predicting.

When they code name a car “Godzilla” - that kind of hints at what they think the car will be capable of and boring will not be one of them! There is interest even with the ones that supposedly hate this engine - they still talk about it. So I’m positive on this engine being an over achiever and await more news with considerable interest.

It would be great to hear those naysayers eat crow in the end or do the same by their silence later on... I can’t wait!

There is more interest in this "Truck" motor than the GT500.
I've talked to several who work for or own major aftermarket companies.
This motor is already a hit.
Expect it to replace the SBF and BBF altogether.
The Coyote because of it's width and lack of displacement will take a hit too.

As for fitting into the S550?
People were already wise enough to measure the 7.3 on display.
It will fit that engine bay with ease.

Face it, Ford has zero interest in increasing the bore spacing of the FWD inspired mod motor and the Coyote that was derived from it.
5.2 liters is all you will ever get.......

Meanwhile over at GM.....5.5 liters pushing 1,000hp........right out of the gate and the new Chevy is already beating Ford's very best.

If Ford would just increase the bore spacing by 1/8 of a freaking inch.......total engine length would only increase by 3/8's of a inch.
A true engine builder would understand the many benefits.

Yeah, why don't you go give them the many, many millions of dollars it'd take to retool Windsor assembly and Romeo for a product that is a dying breed. Maybe they'll do it, just for a couple hundred dudes who refuse to leave the 60s.

Gen 3 Coyote with a blower can push 850-900 whp. Twin turbo setups even more. What else you want?

I'd be interested in learning what the 7.3 cylinder head airflow numbers are. That alone would speak volumes of what the platform is capable of.

The aftermarket will take care of the rest, assuming the effort is worthwhile. I have my doubts, but I've seen some surprising things....

But I still wouldn't want it in truck form in my '15.
