Apple's iphone home button finger print scanners have prooven to be reliable. I don't think it's hard to implement on a car.

I have a F150 and my wife has a Edge and we've had Explorers in the past. Looking at trading in my F150 for a Mustang but shocked that they don't have keypad access. Anyone know why this isn't even offered?
I also have one on my F150 and know just what you are talking about. Ford does have one that can stick to you door and basically acts as a key pad Fobe, you have to key sync it to your key fobe and your good to go. I have tried leaving my key in my mustang and locking the door with the touch handle so I'm not sure if that would work.

In all important ways we went backwards.
because marketing is listening to stupid people and the engineers don't know when to say "get lost". Indeed too many engineers think tech is always good and are guilty of making fragile toys instead of stupid-proof appliances.

Lord help us if this "use your phone" horse-sh*t leaks out of the stupid that is Tesla.

No need for a FOB.....as I mentioned, you can use the phone app to lock and unlock.
Where can I get the phone App?
What’s to stop a previous owner from having the app and having access to my car?
Probably stupid questions but I’m old.

TBF, iPhone’s aren’t out in the weather. :p

The Ford Pass app. However, it’s only available for 2018+ models.

This old iphone 6 that I’m using right now has been beaten, submerged, splashed on with sand and mud, and it reads my fingerprint just fine. I’m sure it’s not hard for engineers to further “weather proof” a fingerprint scanner sitting idly on a side of a Mustang.

It hasn’t been frozen or covered in pollen and/or bird poop, though. You’re also looking a likely a minute or so at most with your phone vs hours/days with a car.

I have a 2001 Mercury Sable Premium that has the keypad, I don't think I've used it more than a few times in my whole ownership of it. Not saying it's not useful if you wanna lock stuff inside, but I don't trust people enough to leave valuables in my car so it's a lost cause on me.

The Ford pass app is also available on 17 models, maybe earlier. I have it on my 17 F150 and 17 Mustang.

It allows the unlock/lock and remote start functionality on a 17? For some reason I thought the wifi modem started with late 18 models, but maybe it was late 16 models...?

I never liked the keypad to be honest, and today it just looks old.
They'd have to pay me to have a visible keypad on my car. And I don't need one since the doors unlock automatically when my hand touches the door handle. Even if I mostly just drove the car to a high crime beach for swimming, I'd rather have my fob surgically implanted than look at a keypad. LoL

That said, I'm not opposed to making anything optional for someone who wants it.

You guys do know that modern Ford/Lincoln “keypad” is completely invisible unless you’re touching it, right? :p
