My first car was a manual. A 1987 Acura Integra 5 door (Hatchback) which is what I learned how to drive on. My Mom was insistent that I learn to drive manual and she taught me. Since then I have owned a few Automatics (all SUVs) and my 2005 Mustang. The Mustang was an absolute blast to drive except in stand still traffic but even then I could deal with it. I really can't wait to get my 15 in and get out on the road again. My DD is a 2014 Explorer which is comfortable but pretty boring to drive (although it is pretty quick for an SUV).

It's my first mustang and a manual is a lot of fun! especially when your down shifting right before a turn to slow the beast done and rocket out of the turn (through the apex and out) and feel the power.

I do understand automatics are very efficient and much quicker and now they are looking at 10 speed autos that have "shifting profiles". But still to me a manual is a blast to drive and is $2K cheaper.

Manual lets you feel more in control and connected to the car/road. Autos are better for daily drivers though especially if you have to commute in traffic. For me though there's nothing like pushing the clutch in firing up the engine and dropping the car into first... Oooooohhhh yeaaaaa I can almost feel it on this car now (insert homer simpson drooling noise)

If you'll be using it as DD then Auto is your choice since you have no experience in manual. I know how to drive a manual car, old or new cars and it's actually fun but not so fun when I use it as DD in the traffic and sloped streets. That's why I'll be getting Auto Mustang GT.

Another factor is a lot of drivers that are not so great in driving manual will increase gas consumption due to "not intended higher rev" and on top of that, they could harm the transmission/engine much easier than Auto.

Well, for fun really. It makes me feel like I'm the operator, not just the driver.

PP. Save cash and weight too.

Always been a manual guy. Wife drives it regularly, so you don't have an excuse, haha. She used to DD this with a stick with 37" tires. Oh and she loves the GT with a stick, btw.

yup. dual clutch paddles are the future in every price range for manual
Not just dual clutches; traditional torque converter autos are making huge strides and closing the gaps too. The Mustang just needs a better automated trans regardless of flavor.

I think all cars should be stick. One main reason is it hard to text or talk on the phone. You also have a lot more control of a your vehicle with stoping and being able to drive a lot more crazy. Not that's always a good thing. I can't wait to do a burn out!

I traded my JK on 35's for my mustang...oh how I miss her.

Anyways, I got a manual because there's no reason to have an automatic mustang in my mind.

I've had both manuals and automatics during the time I owned each, I gave very lucid reasons for choosing one over the other. The truth of the matter is that everyone is different and your needs and interests change over time. So, I'm never going to be in the "It's manual or nothing," OR "It's auto or nothing" camps. My next car will be automatic. It's decided. No, I don't relish pumping the clutch and rowing the gears every five seconds in bumper-to-bumper traffic, or frying the clutch on steep inclines (Seattle hills rival San Francisco's in their scale and number). Am I lazy? Maybe. I'm just tired of the "If it's a muscle car, it's gotta be manual" nonsense. The transmission has to suit the driver's wants AND needs, plain and simple. I guess I'm just too old to give a damn about pleasing anyone but myself, and I certainly don't care what a bunch of strangers think of me. At the end of the day, YOU'RE the one paying for the car. Buy something YOU want. Public opinion is (or should be) a moot point. But I will say this: you picked one helluva car to learn how to drive manually!

Fun factor. I enjoy having full control, besides my wife would laugh at me if I bought an auto.

I hear ya. I've got a lot of cash in parts in mine, do my own work. So can't get rid of it. Paid it off and got another ride. Lot of good people and times in the Jeep community.

The majority of my previous vehicles were manuals. My 06 GT that I owned for over 7 years was an automatic and the hesitation when punching it drove me nuts. My new 15 GT is a manual and it is very easy to drive. Traffic can be annoying, but that will be the same regardless of tranny.
