Why did you get a manual

Once available in Europe I'll order for sure a manual. Got an auto in my other pony (66 Convert) and if you ask me that's were an automatic belongs...not in a fastback EB or GT.

Convertible = cruising, Fastback = fun !

I had a manual 2005 Mustang GT Convertible and have my 2015 Mustang GT Premium Convertible Manual on its way to me. I can cruise just fine with my manual convertible

It's just more fun.

When I turned 16 I got a manual. Then when I was 17, I bought a car with an auto. I only had that car for one year and it was the least favorite car I have ever owned, and most of that experience is attributed to the transmission. Since then (I am now 34), I have owned nothing but manuals.

i'd rather drive the car than have the car half drive itself. i also think it's safer because you are paying more attention to the road and the car rather than texting with an automatic

Anyone can text in an auto, it takes real skill to text while shifting.

I'm in the same boat. I'll be getting a '15 in a few months and with the traffic slow or stopped for an hour a day, I want an automatic. BUT, I think the 5 speed in my '07 Focus ST is the reason I've been happy with it for so long. My mother in laws auto focus bores me to death. Even with a bum right shoulder, there's a good chance I'll be rowing the gears again. My wife, who drives an auto fusion, says Mustangs NEED to be manual. If traffic around you isn't stop and go for hours get the manual. If you're like me once you learn you won't mind driving anywhere. I still look forward to driving my '07.

Why get a manual?

Because then you can join the exclusive "You dont drive a real car" club - where you get to go around and claim your superiority over other cars. We're trying to think of a better name for the club... maybe the automotive-kkk? We'll see

only reason i got a Manual is because i was forced to, due to me wanting the Performance Package. if i had the option to get the Auto with PP i would have went with that

For me, getting a Stang GT auto would have been sacrilegious(being funny). Really because it seems to be a fading tradition. I like speed and like going fast every now and then but I would never sacrifice the feel shifting a car has for me. Shaving a few tenths of a second on the track or elsewhere is just not enough of a reason to make the switch. I like to be one with the car and I don't get that with an auto. I have had the incredible opportunity to drive a Ferrari 458 (not a test drive), an extremely fast car, and the shifts are incredible but for me it was just missing something.

All kidding aside, if it was my DD I might have chosen auto, but it is my fun car and I think manuals in a performance car are just more fun.
Had mine out yesterday. Mileage is over 200 now so I'm starting to let it eat. Got seriously sideways on a 1-2 shift and had to lift. Anyone had their auto do that?

Sad thing is that the wife can drive stick, I guess I could let her teach me, oh the embarrassment.

I'm guessing with 400 pounds of torque it can be that hard to learn.

not sad. My wife taught me how to drive a stick, back when we were dating. You should be thankful that you have a wife that knows how to drive stick. Many friends I have have to get automatic because if their wives. I think when Chryslers originally started to put manumatics, one of the car magazines called it "wive-friendly manual", or "married guy's manual".

I love driving manual. Unlike autos, You don't need to fiddle with stupid switches to get the car to shift "sportier", you just snap at higher revs.

The shifter on the s550 feels so nice, it'd be a shame for you to not get it especially when you have a wife who is for it.

The shifter throws shorter than most, the engagement is more snappy and crisp, and the shifter with the actual metal feels great.

Whenever I see a sports coupe with a automatic I ask myself why? I know a manual is not for everyone, but if you want to rip 50% of the experience, fun and challenge out of driving, by all means go with the auto.

I say the same thing. My wife says the same thing. Iam fine when people want to get automatics, as it IS their car. But I have had a coworker whose parents forbade him to get manual ("too dangerous") when he was young, and now wif won't let him get a manual (for same reasons). He tells me, "I don't need it because I have the auto-manual, I actually CAN shift manually".

I say to him, "unless you have a exotic car with F1 inspired double clutch, don't say that... it's fine to tell peoplease that you wanted auto to begin with"

That being said, none of my friends that own "paddle shifters" actually shift manually. The "manual" mode was more of a novelty that ran out after awhile.

And I agree with the comment that it keeps you focused. When I drive manual, my txt messages are either "y" or "n" on response to someone's text. When I drive our pathfinder (auto), I hAve to try to stop myself from texting.

My first car i got with my license was a 1991 Toyota Corolla Station Wagon, and it was a 5 speed. I learned how to drive manual with that car. Once i got rid of it, I drove all Mustangs after that. All of them were automatic. I miss having a manual and i wanted my next mustang to be a manual.

Plus i was driving my 5 speed wagon in horrible Honolulu traffic and i didnt mind. Gonna do it again with the new Mustang.

I have owned both, a 12' brembo 6M 5.0 and a 14' auto 5.0. I daily drive in traffic every day which made the auto nice at first but over time it became very boring to me. The 6R80 auto is much more stout for making big power in this platform, that is all. If you love the control and feel of driving manual and don't plan on heavily modding get the manual as the the auto will get boring quick.
I am now back in a manual 15' GT again and am loving it. When I want to drive auto I'll drive my wife's Morano
