I may be off base on this but I thing the base GT is quicker 0-60 than the PP. With the shorter rear diff gears, the PP requires that you hit 3rd or hit the rev limiter to get to 60. The base can get there in 2nd. One additional shift is lots in a 0-60.
i can hit post 60 in 2nd with pp... what you talking about Willis?

Important for the guy focused on comparing magazine numbers, but still slower in the real world, unless the race stops at 60mph.
That wasted shift is also slower in an Autocross, and it looks like you might have the same problem in the quarter mile (except the extra shift is to 5th).
At high speeds, the shorter 5th gear costs you time and speed as the fuel economy 6th gear sucks for acceleration.
And it all gets worse when you consider that most race tires are shorter than stock, which shortens the effective gearing even more.

The wheel argument is a moot point. I bet over half the people that don't like the black rims or the style would have changed the wheels regardless. I mean seriously, how many mustangs especially Pony's that lean on the performance side are rocking stock wheels? Few.

Quit hating and keep modding to suit your fancy!

FYI, I LOVE the Performance Package (PP) option and I think it's a great value for the money.

I also disagree that PP is only useful for the track because there are enough hooligans that treat public roads as a track as well. Just pointing out the obvious.

Tough claim to make given that no two AX or road course layouts are the same. Hard to say what kind of ratios would be more suitable for what courses. I haven't a clue about the 1/4 mile times, haven't been keeping up with them. Seems like the autos would be the go-to for straightline numbers.

My fifth gear is literally perfect for highway overtaking, although I wish sixth was a little longer. Are you saying that the other final drives allow you to stick with fifth for passing and cruising duties?
And it all gets worse when you consider that most race tires are shorter than stock, which shortens the effective gearing even more.
Would it be a tangible difference though?

The base suspension is way too soft. I have a base GT with 3.55s and its quick as all get out, but its definitely far floatier than the PP cars. By a long shot. I would recommend you get a PP for that reason alone

I just wish somebody with a stock pp would race a stock base. I guarantee the pp walks the base model with different gears.

I wouldnt be so sure of that. The PP car likely has 200 pounds of extra weight if its a premium.

Nothing wrong with a soft suspension for racing:

And a softer suspension is a lot better for daily-driving over potholes and cracked expansion joints etc.

You've got no choice automatic Jimmy, so youll always try to rationalize every thing you can't have like its great. Human nature, and you do it all the time. I own a base and I will admit its floaty and imprecise.

I have been around Drag racing all of my life and I have never seen a car with a lower gear not pick the car up in the 1/4 or 1/8th mile. Of course there is a point where it will slow some cars down. That generally gets closer to 4.33, 4.56 or 4.88's depending on the tire, transmission combos if your racing 1320 or 660. Guarantee you the 3.73's will be faster in the 1/4 or 1/8th if they hook equally regardless of the gear changes.

PP wheels are awful. I don't know what Ford was thinking when the offered the PP with only this one wheel choice. I had to think long and hard about the PP because of the wheels but finally decided to go that route after I drove a PP and non-PP car, knowing that I would have to change the wheels. Pirelli tires aren't terrific either! One of my first changes is to put some Forgestar CF10s on my Mustang.

This. The big one here especially for manuals is will it be so low that it forces you to shift to 5th in the 1/4. That will affect time and maybe slower. Best gear is lowest one that will put you crossing the line at top of 4th gear, generally.
