I am real close to ordering a 2018 Premium GT. Does anyone know what type of STANDARD TRANSMISSION if currently being installed into the Mustang. My 2011 had the MT82 and my current 2015 has the Automatic. It's time to go back to rowing the gears. Believe it or not the local dealer, Jones Ford in NC, did not know. Service was no help. Then I called Parts and they did not know I said you work in parts and you don't know??? Time to find another dealer.

Revised MT82 is going into the 2018 with updated twin disk clutch and dual mass flywheel, nothing else is really known but I wouldn't expect too much change from the current MT82.

Their parts department just looks up vehicles by VIN's and they kinda have "processes" that they follow. Their knowledge could range from enthusiast to "I just work here."

And it's going to be the MT-82. You're in a Mustang forum and you don't know that? Time to find a different car...

MT82(D) - supposedly with another round of improvements and maybe different gear ratios.

No-lift shift is available in all gears on all models

Driver can keep the accelerator floored while pushing in the
clutch pedal and shifting gears
Hill start assist enhances starts from a standstill, even when
on an incline
Aggressive (short) 1st-gear ratio delivers exhilarating launch
feel
Two overdrive gear ratios reduce engine rpm at highway speeds to help maximize fuel economy
Shift linkage design for more precise and smoother shifting, positive internal shift stops and full gear synchronization provide confident and
smooth overall shift feel
Transmission oil cooler
Hard-finished gears for reduced gear whine and durability
Two-piece housing helps reduce overall driveline binding
Manual shift collar helps protect the transmission from accidental engagement of Reverse
The gearshift lever can only be moved to Reverse by raising the collar below the gearshift knob before shifting to Reverse

Damn, I never thought I'd see this as a factory feature on any car. Pretty awesome. Seems like it will be well improved over the current MT82.

Airfuel, Thank you , now this info was what I was looking for. My 2011 had the box replaced twice. The flywheel and disk once. I do not race my cars and the trans just started whining and finally grenaded. That's why I went with the Auto in 2015.
I heard the 2018 box was getting an update but I was unable to locate the particulars. Thanks again. Good Stuff!

And when the s550 first came out, who would of thought line lock would have ever been a feature?

Well I wasn't aware of all this. I might need to test drive it now.

my 2010 cobalt ss had launch control and no lift shift as standard feature it was fun to use especially peaking at 24.5 psi of boost

So does the '15-'17 MT-82 not have an oil cooler? Also I'm guessing the updated MT-82 is still cable shift linkage?

No prior MT-82('11-17) had a transmission cooler nor did any of them have a cable shift linkage. All MT-82's had a mechanical arm linkage, I can only presume the '18+ will do the same.
