Hey Zinc, When I get to change my user name to CB19, how about throwing a little luck my way.

This pains me to type this, but honestly considering an '18 Charger S/T Scat Pack now... searching their forums the only issues that seem to be prevalent are on older models. Nothing at all like the first 6 pages of this forum folder...

Hopefully Ford will improve for 2020.
It seems like you won't be able to buy any car. All mfr.'s have issues, buy backs etc and most car engines make noises that are what seem unusual. if you are looking to avoid that altogether, just take a bus. Oh yeah they break down too, but you don't need to get a CSR or state attorney involved.

Seriously, just buy the car that makes you happy and stop worrying about what might happen. Your chances of getting a bad apple are pretty darn low.

Well, I hate to put a sour note on your search, but I would highly suggest you join those other forums before buying a Camaro or a GT350. The GT350 definitely has a lot of the identical BBQ ticking issues. The Camaro has also had a pretty notable rash of ticking and rattle noises as well. Currently, the Camaro has had some serious problems with bad lifters needing replacement, and the design has not yet been refined to solve the problems. All these muscle cars have had enough issues to make me buy the car I like to drive the most. And last but not least, the Challenger. It's a cool car, but the interior is just ugly imo, and the car suffers from something no suspension can fix...it drives like an M1 Abrams. It's literally a tank with the agility of a Saturn V rocket. Powerful, but only fun to drive in a straight line.

All this led me back to buying the Mustang. Considering I care nothing for bells and whistles, a base model stick shift GT is more than I need to enjoy driving. If I want a better stereo down the road, I'll install that myself.
The question is how many vs the Tick issues. I'm not worried about the sound itself, I'm worried about what it actually means mechanically.

I test drove a Charger Scat Pack not too long ago (in addition to Mustang GTs, Camaro SS, Challenger). I thought the Charger RIPPED. That 8spd hauls ass especially in sport mode. Best auto transmission on an American V8 IMO. I just wish the Charger wasn't so looooooooooong. It's listed at 200.8 inches. An S class and 7 series Bimmer are 206 inches.

To me it means the engine is running. Same with the sound that comes out of the tailpipe.....unless you stick a banana in it.

Reading the forums, YouTube etc I "think" the Camaro/Vette is a close second to the Mustang for major problems. I'm not seeing these kind of issues with the Challengers and Chargers. Yea, some isolated stuff, some minor electrical issues but nothing like motors/trannys/rear ends having major problems that the dealers can't fix.. Geeze, those are the 3 major parts to a car and stuff we have been building for decades.. The Dodge is a really nice car but it's a land yacht no question about it and even the fanboys agree with that one. Some minor aftermarket suspension upgrades and they can be made much better but the laws of physics are what they are .At least they aren't garaging their cars at the dealership. And yes we all know, problems are there but they seem to be far less than some other brands.
I would agree. I think the Challenger has had the same design now for so long, they've been able to iron out most of the major issues. Dodge is smart by milking the platform (ie. sales)as long as they can before a major design change. If the bloody thing only had a little more agility than a freight train, I would have considered one.

Rumors are for 2020 they will be announcing a smaller car under the Challenger with the Cuda name. Supposed to be v8 powered and more track focused. Story is it was pushed back due to the Challenger still selling so well, but at a recent Dealer only event Dodge rolled a smaller coupe on stage with a loud V8 in a dark room, then right back off the stage so no one really could see it. Only left with the comment that they had "something fun in the works". - I've only seen 1 source for that info so far though.

I know back in like 2010 or so my dad worked at a factory that makes fasteners/latches for Dodge/GM/Ford. One of the execs there was told that a 'Cuda was in the works by one of the Chrysler guys. I'm guessing its something they have wanted to do since the Challenger/Charger success for a while, but have not had teh R&D funds to push it through. Makes me wonder if they are using "cuda" as an internal secret name for future projects so no one really knows what they are making.

I had 2011 Hemi Charger AWD, custom ordered brand new. Most unreliable vehicle I ever owned, would never own another Dodge anything based off that experience. It was a fun vehicle, but had a bunch of reliability and build quality problems.

I almost got an AWD Charger Hemi in 2011, perhaps glad I did not, but I was still planning to throw in a discounted MOPAR lifetime maxcare package and it turned out that the aftermarket was very limited on the AWD hemi... decent wheels, springs, shocks options are hard to find. have to end up with specific offset wheels and coil overs and still put stress on the cv joints anyway. One reason I got the Mustang over the SP Charger/Challenger, I needed an automatic, I know the A8 is great and I enjoyed test driving it, but the A8 have MDS, so I felt more confident with the A10 Coyote always giving me a V8 along with decent MPG. If I really felt for the sedan, I may have taken one deal I had on a fully loaded 2018 Hemi 300S with lifetime maxcare warranty thrown in for under 40K and throw in the Mopar handling goodies to try to get it more confident on the street. If SP chargers/challengers after 2016 did fall under lifetime maxcare, I would have jumped on it, but they ended that for the SP in mid 2016 and terminated lifetime for the rest of Chrysler in November 2018.

Still loving my Charger and still not regretting walking away from the GT. I come back occasionally and it’s the same amount of lemon and buy back posts as in January. I hope Ford gets their sh*t together soon! Only issue I’ve experienced with the mopar is a loose connection on a fog lamp.
