Are you confident that there is a fine enough toothed comb to use going over you 2016 to catch everything? ;)
LOL...no way! I'm sure I will miss something.

I'm not going to expect it to be perfect, because I know it won't be. If there is anything major wrong with it, I will flat out reject it (now that I know what kind of ordeal I would face trying to get it corrected). If there are any items that are minor (but something I don't want to live with), I will inform the dealer that he can call me when these items are all fixed to my satisfaction. Nothing gets signed or settled until all of the pending items are dealt with.

Then I can drive off with confidence. Confidence that something will probably break, vibrate, rattle, leak, tear, detach, hum, buzz, smell, or smoke within 1000 miles!

And I won't even bother ever taking it in for warranty repairs for anything other than a catastrophic failure, because I know that they really don't have a real "bumper to bumper" warranty. I just hope they have a real powertrain warranty.

The minor stuff I will either live with, fix myself, or pay a real mechanic to fix. In other words, I will never again drive into a Ford dealership for any reason whatsoever. If the car ever sees the inside of a Ford service bay, it will be because it had to be towed there!!!

And my new one will have all of the goodies the current one has, plus the 051A package. I didn't care for the 051A wheels at first, but they have really grown on me over the last year.

Maybe you should take along a few other people to scrutinize the new car? A couple different sets of eyes on the new ride couldn't hurt.

Excellent idea! My neighbor has a 2015 GT coupe; maybe I'll see if he has a free afternoon to go "bug hunting"...

Not really- they can cause vibration, but they are only turning at about 1/3rd the speed of the DS- really the same speed as the wheels. So it would feel like an out of balance wheel and not the higher frequency of the DS vibration.
That's one of the problems with this whole mess- the dealers are apparently so ignorant of how to diagnose a vibration problem that they just throw parts at it hoping something fixes it.
When they put my second new DS in, I'm going to insist they measure the run out and record it so there is at least some data going forward to compare with waht they measured last time. Heck with the cheap technology we have now, Ford could install 6 accelerometers in every car and they would have all the data they need to diagnose a vibration problem and predict future failures based on increased vibration levels.
Well... in my dealer's defence, they wanted to try a 1 piece driveshaft but Ford Canada said "you put it on, you pay for it & cover any possible problems down the road". Guess who didn't get a 1 piece driveshaft!
They also wanted to try an outside driveshaft balancing shop...
Ford said nope.
My dealer has been on my side the whole way.

I'm in the same boat- I really like the car and want to buy American, but good grief, it's like they try to make you buy an import. I was on the 9th Gen Civic forum and they sell way, way more Civics than Mustangs and there is no thread anywhere near as damning as this one about the Civic. There were some problems and a few lemons, but nothing like this. It does make you wonder if it is a corporate culture thing. Hard to imagine that Ford can't hire the same quality engineers and suppliers as any other company.

My dealer has tried and been pleasant. But they lack attention to detail and possibly technical skills. Shouldn't need to call in a field service engineer to measure DS run out. But, at least Ford is involved at that level now and I suspect if the next new DS doesn't fix it it will get escalated.

A little update...

I took my car to the second dealership as recommended by Ford. They finally found an issue with the driveshaft, tech said "I can't believe the other dealer missed this, very obvious driveline vibration." So they replaced the DS, which fixed 95% of the problem. They didn't release my car to me because they said that there is still a slight vibration and that they are going to try and get the go ahead to replace the diff.

IIRC - They measured the pinion angle and said that they couldn't get it to properly spec in, which prompted them to contact Ford Engineering and get the approval.

Finally a dealer that doesn't think I'm crazy.

I am back in my Mustang after it being at the dealer for a week. The noise and shake is gone! When they replaced the DS, he said the shake was gone for the first 5 miles or so, and then it came back when he was returning to the shop. After checking out the differential and the lashing coming up proper, he said that they looked at the pinion flange. After inspecting it as compared to a new unit that they had at the shop, there were some inconsistencies with the unit on my car. After consulting with Ford Engineering, they replaced the flange and tested the car. They came back with no shake measured.

I am wondering if some of the diffs that were replaced were due to a bad pinion flange - this was the first 2015 that had this issue at that dealer, so they were examining every possible reason for a shake.

TLDR; Bad Driveshaft and Pinion Flange - Replaced both and shake has gone away.

Mine is at the dealer now getting it's 3rd DS. Should have been done yesterday, but they never called. I suspect that means that the vibration is still there. I told the service manger to check the pinion flange because if it is out of spec, you can put 100 driveshafts in and never fix the problem. He brushed the suggestion off as a crazy idea from a customer. :headbonk:
