Do you experience vibration and rumbling between 50 and 70 mph?

Got my rattle fixed today. It was loose exhaust bracket bolts which obviously were from the driveshaft replacement since you have to remove the exhaust to access it. At least that's fixed. Like I said, my vibration is better, almost tolerable, but I don't think "tolerable" is what Ford intended when making this car. I now see someone posted there is a new part number in the works for the driveshaft. I haven't escalated yet, I will soon. My dealer does not have the vibration tool so I see no need to go further on this issue with them. When I had it done, I also got an oil change and I only got back paperwork on the oil change. Nothing on the driveshaft. And my driveshaft took over a month to come in. Now I am thinking they never ordered it all. They just swapped it out from a new one as a new car goodwill repair to get my good survey results. Probably had to wait for a V6 to come into stock. So that means my car is not yet documented with this issue so I need to escalate and have Deysha send me to a dealer that has worked on this issue. I see no point of having a tech take potshots at what might be wrong. All this talk of it's an IRS and all that is crap. This is not the first car with an IRS, This is not the first Ford with an IRS. I had a 97 Lincoln Mark VIII with the detuned 4.6 32v Cobra motor (my V6 is faster) and it had IRS and was smooth as glass. That was an awesome car, BTW.

Ok so here we go I got my 1 piece aluminum driveshaft put on. And....it's still doing it. It did slightly change the vibration. The car accelerates, shifts and overall feels better until I hit 55, then the vibes start and I can feel it in the pedal more then before.

Im kinda at a cross roads, I have to drive my car at this point, but I hate anyone from a dealership touching my car. I was hoping this would be fix.

So other then the driveshaft whats the next collective idea, the ring and pinion?

Did you ever see driveshaft in 97 Lincoln? It was very heavy because it was 2 steel tubes with one inside the other with rubber between them. My brother had 94 T-bird that we put 32v engine in. He tried using Lincoln it vibrated end up putting 94 t bird driveshaft back. Which by the way hugh pain to do because of fuel tank. Lincoln never even had tires that Mustang has now.

I'm going to try to find tire shop that does road force balancing

Sorry about that, man. That is not surprising.

You will have a hard time fixing it if you start throwing random parts at it like that. What needs to be done now, is to field balance the driveshaft with the flange. That's where the vibration is occurring. Replacing all the other parts is not going to solve the problem . It's not difficult work, however It is time-consuming, but you might get lucky. Message me and I can walk you through it. The other option is to have your stock shaft assembly put back in.

I have written tomes on this problem. You can look at some of my earlier posts and yoU'll see why the aluminum driveshaft not fix it. The good news is that the one piece aluminum driveshaft is lighter, and will respond better to added weight for balancing

Okay, so I am having an interesting dilemma. I've been having vibration issues, but really dread the thought of taking my stang to the dearlership, as I don't have a good relationship with one and the other nearby I had to get ford service rep involved to get the break squeal TSB done. So anyhow on to the issue. My vibration is pretty much at all time. I'm running 285's all around, as well as a couple BMR mods, so I don't expect buttery smooth. Also when I had my custom exhaust done, the shop welded on their own hangars for the mufflers instead of using the factory ones, so maybe there's some vibrations being transmitted through the car that way. Regardless, on friday I took my stang to a place that was recommended to me by a friend, said that the guy is a guru with balancing tires. Cost me $120 for the balance. Still have the same cell phone type vibration, but my nasty vibration at around 85 was gone, the one that made my legs vibrate through the floor boards.

Now here's where it gets interesting, and I would love some input to see if anyone else has experienced something like this. Now I always drive with my left hand on the wheel, and right hand near the shifter. All my cars have been manuals, and just a habit I developed. Under bad driving conditions or windy roads, then I have both hands on the wheel, but for the most part it's always just my left hand, never my right. So after my balance, my left hand was getting numb and tingly from the vibration, so I switched hands to just my right hand on the wheel, and didn't feel any vibration. Not saying smooth as glass, could definitely feel the rumble of the V8, but really no vibration. So I kept switching hands, and have found it to be a problem with my left hand. It's very susceptible to vibration. To the point it's freaking me out a bit. Sitting here just typing this my left hand still feels funny. So I will be making an appointment with a hand doctor in the near future. But I am curious if anyone else has experienced this?

No, Ryan, just you.

Clever idea, give up on taking the car in for service, and instead take the driver in for service!

Yeah, that's how strongly I feel about going to the dealership. Rather take myself in for service.

Mine is mild enough to allow me to be patient. Reading what everyone else is going through is like being in Switzerland while watching events unfold in Syria.

Driveline Vibration is certainly a negative incentive to spending mod money. Super easy for the dealer to blame the non-OEM wheels, exhaust, or suspension bits. I may likely return my car to stock (wheels and exhaust only this year), and then check it in during winter shut-down with "Call me when it's fixed" instructions.

Late to this interesting thread.

When we were looking at Mustangs last fall we thought the V6 might work best for what we looking for. The dealer located a manual in their stock and we drove one after driving a EB manual.
The V6 idled smoothly but as the revs built, the vibration increased to the point at even 2K revs it was distracting. It came through the seat and the shifter to the point where it seemed there was something wrong with the car.
By contrast, the EB was smooth through the gears and on the road with 7K on it, there is absolutely no vibration that can be noticed behind the wheel.

Small update...

I am told Ford has removed the ability from all dealerships to order an entire rearend assembly. So individual parts have been ordered and being installed (Ring gear/pinion ETC).

I do not care. If it works I am a happy fella.

Well, finally was able to start driving my car. First thing I noticed was when above 50, I can feel vibration through the wheel....like unbalanced tires... Same symptoms you guys have.

I'm going to say screw it. It's not too bad and hopefully is just the tires or rim combo. Only reason I noticed, is because my V6 w/AT was smoother as butter...no vibration at all! It however did have smaller rims and skinnier, but taller tires...also was an automatic. Also, the V6 was a far quieter ride.....can hear EVERYTHING on the road and the tires moaning too, in the GT.

Hello. What you are describing does suggest that you have a wheel/tire balance issue. The worse problem (that you don't want) is somewhere in the drivetrain from the transmission to the differential.

The drivetrain vibration feels and sounds completely different from a tire/wheel problem, like there is an airplane propeller or a sub woofer playing a 50 Hz bass note in the car. If it is a tire, you can rejoice. That is quickly fixable. As for my car, I have the performance package with the 19 inch wheels and P zeros. They are some of the smoothest balanced tires I have ever owned. There were index marks on them and the wheels when I got the car, showing that they had been Road force balanced.

For those who have the access or CD's, can you please post up from the Ford Shop Manual the section pertaining to the center carrier bearing R&R and diagnosis?

Thanks in advance!

One other question I don't recall being answered...

How come a part such as the driveshaft comes clearly marked with a label that states:
"If dropped scrap".

This is on the barcode label affixed to the driveshaft tube.

Why are these driveshafts so delicate as opposed to prior model years?
