Do you experience vibration and rumbling between 50 and 70 mph?

^My dad has the mini bed on his truck and I made fun of it when my fishing rods had to lay diagonally to fit...
Good luck on the vibes.
Thanks -- I really hope they fix the vibe because other than that I love the car!

Hey everyone, I'm picking my 2016 Ecoboost from the dealership this evening. Just a quick run down on what was done while in the shop for the last 45+ days;

Balanced tires,
Rotated driveshaft 180 degrees,
Replaced driveshaft from different vehicle,
Force balanced tires,
Swapped all tires and wheels from another Mustang (and then put the originals back),
Replaced rear differential (including pinion flange)
Checked four wheel alignment.

I test drove the vehicle after the rear differential change and the vibration went away. One thing I did notice is that the yellow marks on the driveshaft and pinion flange weren't lined up until until the dealership changed the rear differential. I'm not sure whether the differential took care of the vibration or indexing the driveshaft and pinion flange took care of it.

The tech that worked on the car told me he checked with Ford (?) and they told him the yellow marks on the driveshaft and pinion flange weren't index marks but he lined them up because I indicated it had resolved some people's vibration issue.

I understand that some members have had their cars differential changed and the vibration went away, only to have it return several hundred or thousand miles later.

I do have to mention my dealership has been very proactive in working with Ford in trying to resolve the issue and had acknowledged from the beginning that the car did have an issue.

I'll be taking the car on a 1600 mile road trip next week so I'll re-post if the vibration returns.

Strange, as there has to be some way to line up the parts ... unless they are saying that all rotating parts (pinions, drive shaft, etc) in the drive train are supposedly perfectly balanced already and it doesn't matter how they are clocked when assembled.

I still think the yellow dots are index marks.

I will mention this, the original pinion flange had four holes drilled in it about a quarter of an inch deep (which is how I believe they balance the flange). The new pinion flange only had one drill mark on it about a sixteenth of an inch deep...go figure.

Yes, the drilled holes are for balancing. Obviously one flange started out better than the other, so it needed much less material removed by drilling.

"Theoretically", if all the rotating parts in the drive train were perfectly balanced individually, then there would be no need for index marks. But I doubt they are that perfectly balanced.

I believe a few members did say that when the yellow index marks were re-aligned on the drive shaft to pinion that the vibration was way less or went away. But others have said it made no difference. I think there are multiple causes to the drive line vibration, and if a car has more than one thing going on then it may take multiple fixes - like re-indexing drive shaft or new drive shaft, new pinion flange or who new differential to fix.

Been lurking for a few months, made an account to vent and/or get some advice.

Just bought a 2016 EcoBoost about four weeks ago. Around 1800 miles in I started noticing the driveline vibration between 45-70mph. I took the car in to a local dealer (not the one I purchased the car at as it's significantly farther away); dealer tells me they've had a few cars come in (including some they've sold themselves) with the same problem but they're waiting to hear from Ford on how to proceed. I was told they'd "keep my ticket open" but to "pick the car up because they don't know how long it will take."

From what I've read, this issue has been known for the better part of a year. Why hasn't something been done to fix the QC issues or, at the very least, why hasn't knowledge been disseminated so that the dealerships can fix the damned issue?

Welcome, and sorry you are one of the unlucky ones. The lack of a fix (or even any recognition that there is a problem) is something that baffles and aggravates us all. I'm not sure how many cars they will have to buy back before this issue becomes worthy of their attention, but I really hope the tipping point is not too far off.

Since your dealer has pretty much admitted that they don't know how to fix it, it might be worth your time to contact the BBB. If you decide that you want them to give you a refund or replacement, you will be responsible for $.28 per mile up until the date of the arbitration. The sooner you get on this, the less it will cost you if you do take it all the way.

Check out this thread for more info on filing with the BBB. It's super easy, but it will take a few months to go through the process: http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24609

Best of luck; I hope they are able to get you fixed up one way or another.

I have a 2015 Roush RS3 with the same vibration issues. Technicians believe it is a drive shaft or one of the half shafts. I will let you knw once the swap is done to see if it fixes it. Only have 1800miles on it. Only issue I hav with the car. Other then that I love the car.

If you read through the thread, you will see that it is not a driveshaft or half shaft. A half shaft is turning at 1/3 the speed of the DS so the vibration frequency would be different. New DS hasn't fixed anyone's car yet. Pinion flange or entire diff has fixed a few. They are probably wasting your time and theirs doing the DS. I wouldn't let them do anything to it until they have a Ford engineer and the vibration measuring equipment.

I have a 2016 Ecoboost Pemium M/T with just under 500 miles (800 kms) on it. A vibration begins mostly on 5th and 6th gears (between 60-80mph) and is mostly felt along the floor board. Hence I am suspecting its the drive shaft issue discused in this thread.

I am about to take it up with the dealership. Any advise from Canadian 'vibration victims' on how I should approach this issue? Should I be talking to Ford Canada first? Has Ford accepted that an issue exists at all and have provided a standard fix or should I start from scratch?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Mine was fixed by replacing the drivers side half shaft. Smooth as silk now. Really satisfied.

Good to know... but, it is not the same vibration. The DS is turning at 3-4x the speed of the halfshafts, depending on what rear end ratio you have- 3.15, 3.55, etc. That's why it's important to have the vibration measuring equipment.

Since Ford will have all work done thru a dealer, go to your dealer and just say you have a 'vibration' problem. Let them troubleshoot it and take ownership of it [or tell you "they all do that"]. Their feedback will determine what follows. Ford Canada doesn't know what the root problem is themselves & they're gonna want the dealership to look at some of the standard starting stuff like road force balancing etc.

New to these message boards, I have a 2015 PP Mustang GT AT, it was used had about 6K miles on it when I bought it a few weeks ago. Have to drive it on the freeways nearly 300 miles a week so I almost immediately noticed something odd.

The Vibration or Humming is at a frequency different from the tires so I know its not my imagination its very subtle. So I took it into Ford today and they said they coulndt find anything wrong. Told them to keep the car over the weekend and that id take the tech for a ride on Monday.

Will post back as my story unfolds....
