unfortunate to hear this. I have not had a problem with locking out on mine.

That part is a significant source of NVH though. A lot of owners, myself included, have what sounds like a "gear hiss" and that slider ( or what ever it connects to and activates) contributes to it.

If I'm driving normally or hard, and I pull up on the slider, I can hear the hiss go away. Granted, I probably wouldn't have noticed, it but there is an audible difference with the slider up. Now when I really want to enjoy the sound of the car, I will shift with the slider up.

This thread might be of interest to you, especially if you dive into a repair job on this.

Right! That was the primary reason I went for MGW Shifter. Every dealership here claimed the noise from the shifter/trans was normal, until I swapped the shifters and it was gone.
In retrospect however, I would say that apart from that annoying issue the OEM shifter was alright and if it did not exhibit the problem I would not change it.
I have always wanted MGW lol. Although the Tremec shifter is fantastic. I am assuming you got the MGW how did you like the improvement over the stock shifter?
Beware of what you wish for! One reviewer of MGW Shifter on YT said that "you definitely have to shift with purpose". Which is hard to explain until you try. I have driven two MGW Shifters (one in my car and one in @Esset 's) and both are more notchy than the OEM Shifter. Mine is even more notchy from the two. And I definitely need to use more force to shift (compared to the OEM shifter).
But, if you are into mechanical toys, you will love MGW Shifter. It is a fine piece of machinery. There is no wobbling of the stick, no uncertainty, you literally feel the gears.

EDIT: Just to clarify one point. When I say my MGW Shifter is more notchy than the other MGW Shifter, in fact, I do not mean that the two shifters are different. You would understand when you see the MGW Shifter in a real life and in action. The Shifter feels as precise as it gets, the attributed perception is most likely caused by the other parts of the drivetrain - transmission alignment, gears wear, tolerances, etc.

@JetGray_Mach1 , have you changed you shift knob recently? The reason, I ask is when I changed mine to the WM-weighted one, I actually screwed it down too far, and the collar would hang.

I agree with @Rael, it sounds like a sticking issue, that could be something as simple as certain cleaners causing a reaction between the collar and the shift knob. Like you, I back in every space I park, so reverse is used often. Good luck!!

There seems to be an issue with the Reverse Lockout for my Tremec. When I pull up on it sometimes it gets stuck in the up position (have to manually push it down). Seems to happen randomly (only 3 times so far - I have 26K miles). Question any of you had this issue? I will pull it apart soon but wanted to ask if any of you found a fix. perhaps lubrication where the lockout slides? Seems like a easy fix with a new part I will definitely NOT send it to dealer for this minor issue.
I'd check the shift knob first. If it had been installed marginally too far down that could occur. Unscrew it enough to raise jam nut, reinstall the knob and run it a while.

Thanks for the info, I don't mind that at all. I love the mechanical feel of the Tremec that sounds like it would make it even more mechanical which I like.

Let me ask you if you had the choice right now between OEM and MGW which one would you prefer? I think the answer would be MGW.

Thanks. Right on the only way to do it is backing into a spot :like: plus the HP with the wide tires has a bad turning radius its like I am driving a big truck when it comes to parking or making a U-TURN :giggle:

Regarding the shifter, I have not modified anything on it. Sounds like its a defective part.

I will check it out, :like: Ill pull it apart I am really curious why it sticks the way it does.

MGW Shifter is true to the whole package. I like that (as well as the MGW Shifter design and realization) so I would choose this one if I could. That said, however, the shifting was smoother with the OEM shifter and I can imagine that an uninitiated driver might prefer that over MGW.
I was lucky I could test drive it before deciding and knew what I was getting into.

The MGW might take an hour or two to get used to.
But once you do ... 🏎!

I has this issue since new… it just needs a bit of lubrication…

remove shiftknob and do five drops of wd40 around the lockout, solved..

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I am really thinking about a MGW shifter, I have the 2nd gear resonance and it is annoying. My question is, I invested in a Billetworkz shift knob which came with the adapter to adapt to the stock shifter. Will I have to give up my shift knob with MGW or will it fit sans adapter? I love my new shift knob, don't want to give it up, would rather just get the noise fixed...

I think they sell an adapter you could use. The MGW s don't pull up to go into reverse, they push down to go into reverse like in the olden days.
