If the mechanism is like the MT82, there is a roll pin in the shaft under the shift collar - if it’s not central in the shaft, it will dig into, and restrict the movement of the collar.

WD :like:
Thanks I will try it out next time I dig in.

Install headers and an H-pipe.. You won't hear many of the clearance related sounds your car makes anymore.
The H-pipe alone is plenty loud in sport mode LOL

Did that on my last Mustang :). No thank you, it was so god awful obnoxiously loud. I resonated it and still wasn't to my liking. It was a 10 speed though :)
H-Pipe is perfection in the M1. It won't be too loud and still have quiet mode if needed. Highly recommended.

Maybe, it sounds pretty damn good stock though. I really like it so far. I immediately did a full Borla S type Cat back on my 22 GT with active. It was awesome, but then headers made it way over the top... Even catted...

I have the exact same issue in my shifter. The squeak from 1st to 2nd has become obnoxious and so has the rattling in 2nd. Tried the fixes in the auto fanatic youtube video to no success. I would do the MGW if it were not so short. Feel like I'd have to hunch down just to shift. IDK why it is sooo low. It has become so annoying that it is ruining the experience with the car. I wish Ford would finally do a proper shifter.

Yeah I agree, the MGW is really low. BUT, I put a Billetworkz "Tall Teardrop" shift knob on and it helped a tremendous amount. The height is perfect now. Cost quite a bit of money to fix it with the shift knob, the MGW, and the installation.... But it is soooo worth it, the noise was ruining my whole experience as well...

This totally fixed it? No resonance or rattle in any gear? I had an MGW in an MT-82 and it rattled awfully in 3rd gear. Do you have a link to that shift knob perhaps?

Thanks. That looks pretty good, especially in orange. So sounds like overall quieter than stock...how is it not totally silent? Just overall NVH like at high RPMs?
Yeah just a bit. I chalk it up to the more mechanical connection. Mine is still a bit notchy too but it's getting smoother every drive. The 1.5 pound shift knob helps some too. Overall it's 150% improvement. Direct and smooth, and the noise is minimal to me considering. I haven't owned a manual a few years but this is the best shifting manual I have ever had, even stock it was good other than that stupid resonance. I did do Amsoil fluid when I did the shifter too so it's hard to tell which is helping which.

Well I believe the 2nd shift resonance maybe it was said in this thread is from the reverse lockout and the shaft rattling up against that as they are so close. And a design that eliminates that would definitely fix it.

Yes. The original culprit of the 2nd gear grinding noise is the factory shifter. Replacing it, fixes the noise.
On the other hand, MGW shifter is a fine piece of machinery with very tight tolerances, so it transmits all the whines and rumbles from the transmission much better than the factory wobbly design. In other words, shifter does not add any noise, but makes you hear the transmission better.

Well come to think of it, that is a very accurate description. The shifter noise I hated is gone, but normal gearbox noises are there. I am fine with that :)
