Let’s imagine for a moment that not everyone had a dedicated enclosed mustang specifically built car hauler and you had to transport your S550 about 200 miles and back for some “improvements”. How would you strap it down on a borrowed 14k gvwr flat deck equipment trailer? Be aware there aren’t the track type adjustable attachment points down the middle of the trailer, just 1 D ring at each corner of a 20’ trailer and the typical rail and stake pockets along the edge of the deck.
the belly pans front and rear make finding anywhere to attach a strap to a challenge.
Pics receive extra credit. Thanks.

You can use wheel straps like on pictures above - there d-ring adapters that fit into standard trailer stake pockets that are cheap and give you way more flexibility in positioning tie downs. If it's the deckover (deck over the wheels - not at axle height like in the pic above), your main issue will be to get the car on the trailer as its ramps will likely be too steep - especially if you have a lowered car.

This has been discussed previously. I used the Ford Performance tie down plates. Maybe 10 minutes to bolt on, and they provide secure attachment front and back. I added pictures to Jabberwalkie's thread.

OP here ya go, as mentioned above, this thread has the details on the Ford Performance tie down kit (images and actual install pdf) so you can see how they mount under the vehicle.

FP tie downs doesn't really help much if D-rings aren't positioned in a place where the straps won't interfere with the wheel (like on the pic above - rear tie down is just ahead of front wheel so unless you cross the straps, wheel is in the way).

I get the advantage of tying down the chassis vs. the wheels but it's not like car doesn't move on its suspension if it is tied town using FP points - it does, just less. Ultimately, if it's one time thing, I'd do what's easier and just tied down the wheels.

Tie it down with wheel straps. Not sure what S550 you have, thanks to the mobile site, but the Shelby supplement explains how to tie down a car, and state not to tie the car down by the frame. Wheel straps only.

Interesting - do you know why ? There isn't really anything inherently different between Shelbys and regular cars from that perspective.

I don't recall. I know a lot of guys just run the straps like you describe (hell I have a set as backup) on Shelbys. There are several threads on here about guys using them. I know on my car, I can't get the front strap to the tie down because of the splitter if I used the wheel straps.

Thanks all. I ordered a set of wheel lassos with fleece sleeves to run through the wheels. Also got a set of chain extensions to connect to the stake pockets and rub rail. 8’ race red ratchet straps to cinch it down. Macs tie down are top tier kit. Great customer service as well. Buy once cry once.

Ive used axle straps in frame spots. Easiest way is to buy or make the tie down hooks

I put the FP tie down kit on my car. Even if I never put it on a trailer again, it sure made it slick and easy to get it tied down on the trailer. Was super secure 1000 miles round trip, and worked great.

How does it not interfere with the front and rear belly pans?
