Amsoil... it should drive like this then...

Well yeah. If you aren't jumping your Mustang, drifting on dirt roads, or using Amsoil, then you're doing it wrong.

Once I started tracking my car I switch to 5w30. Ran Penzoil Ultra Plat. Since last year I have switched to 0w40 Mobil 1 or Amsoil. Drive it street and track. It’s not my daily but all reports from Blackstone Labs have come back great. And yes I know everyone has there opinion of Blackstone

w40 gives me more peace of mind but I know others run w30 without issue.
I run the same oil Biggsy

Not going to lie. I have zero knowledge of the oil industry and manufacturing process. But I know when this was brought up on the Facebook TMO group a couple years ago, Billy Johnson said to go with Mobil 1 (also not trying to say his word is law). Other drivers use Mobil 1 0w40 for track use. I have had good reports from using Mobil 1. That is my non data driven support lol.

🤷‍♂️
I don't think it makes much of a difference. I think as long as you change your oil frequently and keep it from overheating, you can pick whatever brand you want. A large change in weight of oil would be more concerning to me than the brand as that would affect flow rates, pressures, and bearing spacing tolerances.

But it's your car; stick with Motorcraft if that makes you more comfortable.

I like the M1 0w40 in the 12-qt box at Walmart for ~$65.
One track day uses more than 50% life. But I would extend it to a weekend anyway.

I don't change back and forth. There are plenty of oil changes with tracking anyway.

If I need an oil change at the end of the season then I might go back to 5w30, but I won't use its full life before the first track day the following season.

0w40 even though I run an auxiliary oil cooler, keeping my engine at 235-240 on track at FTB. Extra cooler makes it an 11-quart fill, but I think I can only drain 10 quarts.

I've been running 5w-30 Penzoil Ultra plat. Haven't had it tested but it seems to hold up very well.

Interesting reading about the use of M1 - that's what I use for the old merc.

Not sure when they changed it but my manual states 5w50 for the track. I've been using 5w50 in the car since the weather warmed up a bit. Once it drops back down below 50 i'll start using 5w30 through winter.

Track temps never crossed 220 CHT on a 85 degree ambient day - which was nice. 5w50 is more expensive though thats for damn sure.

I've been using 5W 50 Motorcraft. I don't see an issue with the second number being a higher number than what the manufacturer recommends, even if temperatures are cold outside. The first number represents the cold viscosity, so 5W anything should be fine as far as cold temperatures go.

I ran 5W 50 in the GT350 year round and it worked fine in -10F temperatures. It does cost more to run an oil with a really broad range, and the additives do shear a little faster, but I tend to change oil frequently anyway.
