What does a harmonic balancer have to do with the timing sprocket?

If this timing sprocket is an issue, I would think all vendors selling blower packages should be advising their customers to upgrade this along with the opg when selling them a blower package!
I guess it can be an issue but it's not a wide spread issue.

Ugh. Luck is not strong with my family. I'm not wanting to open the timing cover, but every time I see this post and the likeness, I feel I should and just knock it all out at once, including the timing chain tensioner... Damn you, MMR, damn you. Hopefully, once everyone breaks their stuff enough, I'll just make one swoop and replace everything at once.

I am also looking for the ATI balancer, balancer bolt, TSS OPG and MMR TG...

I think I have these three covered at $825 shipped unless anyone PMs me otherwise:
TSS oil pump gear
ATI 918047 6.780"OD Damper (anyone using anything else for 93oct w 2.625" or 2.5" ?)
ARP 156-2502 damper bolt

Also looking for:
MMR timing gear

Is $1000 all four above doable or dream'n?

Just wanted to do it all at once.

Balancer decreases peak angular acceleration (peak shock).

I think the 20% oversize ATI 10 rib balancer weighs like 12 freakn pounds?
6 rib is 4-8#?

It might not be an issue <700rwhp?
The more horsepower available on the crank, the faster it can increase angular speed (RPM). The faster the crank can rev the more force needed to accelerate the valve train. Higher torque and loading on the sprockets, chains, and timing gear results. Then add in a little shock loading, or crank snout misalignment from crank flex due to pulling 100-140hp worth of torque off the crank to drive the blower and the timing gear. Supposedly its 2-4 degrees flex :eyebulge: at the snout in the 600-900rwhp range.

Yup ,I would be careful running the 20% balancer ,especially on manual car.
I had a 2.9 whipple set up /10 rib/20% balancer on my 12.
Snapped my crank off (first time out) when I hit the rev limiter .

Not sure if it is the same set up on the new whipple/10 rib/balancer.
I am no expert but I think the belt on the 10 rib ran off a different Sheave from the 6 rib/TVS set ups, potentially putting more stress on the crank .

So, to wrap this up, in simplistic laymans terms, if one wants a relatively bullet-proof setup (without excessive abuse and having a stock bottom end) what is suggested in addition to a basic blower package?

Go twin turbo. Just kidding. I have a quote to do this with the phase 2 upgrade but I'm still on the fence. I've seriously considered ways to tell the wife I'm going with a built bullet so subconsciously I may not care... Except for the money

Lol. We are all working on figuring that out.

Next good info may come from the new "checkengine" cam timing thread.
http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43272

I am going 6 rib with ATI damper. Will lower tension until it slips slightly and then go up slightly from there. A weak 6 rib belt is cheap, fast and easy to change. 93 octane till summer (Texas) then change to E85 (w ?3.5" and 2 pump with voltage boost). Wont go above 750, E85 change is due to Texas heat and not to try to make crazy power.

Whipple kit: wide blade, fans (Texas heat), 72#, 3.625.

In addition to Whipple kit, looking at $1200 insurance plan:
TSS Oil Pump Gear,
MRR Timing Gear,
ATI 6 rib damper

I expect Ford to release a new crate long block with a better block vs the current Aluminator series. Maybe SCJ16 variant without the Whipple at $8k less?
$23k-$8k = $15k at 10:1

So in addition to the blower, so far we are at:

TSS Oil Pump Gear
MRR Timing Gear
ATI 6 rib damper

This all get's pretty damn expensive!!

Crank gear and timing gear are one in the same, but yeah, it's expensive. Plus install (time/money).
