Does anyone know if the 2020 GT500 oil pump gears are forged?

I’m installing the Ford Performance GT500 oil pan kit on my track car and want to know if it’s worth using the GT500 oil pump that comes with it.

    Thanks,

I think it let loose on the up shift when the RPMs dropped down. So maybe 6500 then dropped down in limp mode. It was still making oil pressure after it through the warning. I had to drive it about a 1/2 mile before I could pull over. No knocking and 40psi at idle. Hoping the nannies saved it.

They are "forged" the same way that the stock Coyote/Voodoo gear is "forged" i.e. powdered metal forging but are supposedly made of stronger material. The GT500 gears are also thicker so no interchange.

I wish the best for you but fear the worst. Only takes seconds for damage to occur, but maybe since you still saw oil pressure it may have saved you. Surprised though with gears failed it would really have any oil pressure.

Honestly I started it up once after shutting it down cause it was running fine. Cleared the code with the Ngauge and figured if it was a broken gear it couldn’t have been more than a single crack that was bleeding off as it was pumping. When I slid the oil pump off the crank and one piece dropped down I was like :inspect: I got lucky that piece followed the rest of the gear around. When I got it apart and saw how many pieces it shattered into  the stock oil pump gears really are junk. At least now I can go and get a two step for cool noises this summer

Sorry I forgot the second half of your question. The GT500 oil pan is deeper than a pre '18 5.0 pan. The pickup is therefore longer to reach (a 1/2" if I remember). The pickup tube is also larger in diameter than the 5.0 so it wont fit the 5.0 pump. You will have to use the GT500 pump if you go that way.
On +'18 5.0, the pick up isn't really physically attached to the pump just a slip fit. So you'll need the GT500 pump here as well.

Thanks. I’m definitely using this thing. Hopefully Ford put good gears in it.

Sorry for derailing this thread. I’ll start an installation thread later.

Unless the gears shatter in a million pieces and just rattle around in the pump, then just a few cracks here and there does not "immediately" compromise the pump and its ability to provide oil pressure. The way the gear broke in the pictures above, I can see how it still maintained its shape and still worked. Probably not for long at that point, but sounds like the owner shut off the engine quick enough before it got worse.

Thank you thank you. Oh man.
    Oil pan porn.
Ohhhh teaser with the windage and pickup just at edge of image... can the other parts come out n play? Just a little?
Id prolly lose my composure if you put a set of calipers on that pickup tube at the pump inlet.

this question pops up like twice a year. it's not something you have to do, but, if you plan on hitting the rev limiter / 2 steps, etc.. i would do it. i have guys that have been running for 7 years on stock opgs, and i have guys that made it weeks...

I just ordered that GT500 oil Pan Kit yesterday but now I'm reconsidering. If I have to use the included pickup and pump... a pump without Billet gears. Terry any chance have you talked to Boundry, TSS or MMR about making OPGs for this gt500 pump?

Remember though, Ford builds their stuff to last at the power ratings they go with. In the case of the GT500, the gears were made to handle just over 700hp so they are definitely beefier. Coyote gears are perfectly fine for stock power and RPM, so I see no reason why the GT500 gears won't handle 700hp and whatever RPM.

My new motor is being built right now and the question is:

    - MMR Hurricane billet pump + MMR pickup + Moroso road race pan (these parts have all been bought, pump installed)
    - or go with the GT500 kit
