Just for fun wanted to see now that its been a few years of having the sleeper and top mount turbo hellion systems. Wanted to see who has had a turbo failure while using the base 62/62 JB turbos? Seeing that the sleeper system no longer uses the coolant lines and they have the revised oil tanks ... one on each turbo which has helped with any scrapping anyone was having. Me personally never got any scrapping of the components with the sleeper kit, but im stock ride height. I have been looking at upgrading the stock base turbos to the 62/62B turbos not cus of issues as the base are doing great but for the peace of mind really. The base kit only has 7k on it, I keep it 8 to 10psi on the street and I am a spirited driver but their not pushed to hard usually. I also use quality oil and change it religiously on time as well as allow a min to 2 of cool down before I shut it off. Whats the most power people have made on the base turbos, I have gotten 945whp at 13psi with the base turbos running out of fuel. I have since upgraded the fuel system to the KPM 1500 system to help with that but havent gotten back on the dyno to tune for higher boost. But on a stock bottom 3rd gen engine I dont want to blow it up Wengard has it set up nicely and its dam fast for a daily driver stick.

Had mine fail on dyno during tuning. From what my tuner and precision said that coyote engine produce alot of oil pressure putting stress on JB

looks like a top mount system, is that correct? Just curious as I have seen a few of the top mount with issues not so much with the bottom mount ..... yet haha. That exhaust exit looks insane

I have the base 62/62 journals. Oil cooling only with the updated tanks. Working just like day one with over 53,000 miles on them. I even spent about 6 months burning a shit ton of oil through them when my engine was going out. Thought I'd need to replace them for the new engine but they are still solid. I cleaned them with just brake cleaner. Hellion has a vendor that rebuilds them as well.

Yeah i hear the base turbos are actually really amazing for being a JB.

Can't speak for anyone else but I've had no issues. I know BB should spool quicker but the lag is pretty minimal with the 373 gears.

Journal bearing should be harder to kill off than a ball bearing. There is more oil there to cool the housing and dampen thrust loads. This is why most diesels run journal bearing turbos. It doesn't need water so much because of all of the oil there but the water will aide in longevity.

I haven't seen too many failures out of the JB setup and I don't think there is much difference in transient response in the precision/hellion JB and bb options.

The only way you can really be sure is to get a manual car and floor it in a "wrong gear" and see where they come on to full boost at.

I believe you should be fine with the JB turbos they are built for abuse but if you want to be certain to max out longevity I would simply think about shortening oil change intervals, and if you're really afraid look at some turbo oil filters.
