I was going to install Steeda jack rails today but I wanted to double check a couple things.

  1. The instructions from Steeda mention that one of the jack rails will have a "bracket with a larger slot" that should face towards the front of the vehicle. If you look at my pictures below, the front brackets of both of my rails have identical bolt holes/slots. The pictures of the rails on Steeda's site and in the printed instructions I received slow an elongated hole on the passenger side's front bracket. I do have an elongated hole in the rear bracket of the passenger rail.
  2. What about the seam sealer (see picture of my car below)? The instructions do not mention trimming it. However, in the S550 in Figure 1 of Steed's instructions there is no seam sealer at the front driver's side where the jack rail bracket goes. I read through BMR's instructions and they mention trimming the seam sealer. If I trim/remove this will I need to worry about (additional) rust issues in this area?
  3. Steeda doesn't mention torque specs for the bolts, they say "using the supplied hardware firmly bolt the parts in place". BMR says to torque the OE bolts to 63 ft/lbs. What did you all do when installing the Steeda rails?

Appreciate the help!

I just installed mine with no issues. The 2 holes that are closer together go toward the front. I reused the bolts that were in place. Use locktite and snug them up good.

I just installed mine on top of the seam sealer. No issues. Oh will note that once installed, thy yaw slightly toward the tranny tunnel. This is normal, checked it against 2 other buddies cars.

In regard to the elongated holes, there wasn't any on mine. I watched the video dezl did and ensured I had the right rail on the right side.

Thanks, did the OE bolts have thread locker? Which did you use?

Yes, the chassis is slanted in that area so the square tubing will follow the angle.
BMR has counter angled jack rails and they are slightly more expensive.

Thanks. Can you link the video? I searched the forums here and didn't find any user by that name.

Search for Steeda can crushers or something like that. Actually I think it may be project Whitemare that did the video.

At any rate it was a white 550 on airbags.

I just installed mine about a week ago.

Answers below:

Steeda Jacking rails install

1. No idea about elongated holes. All mine were identical side to side. Install was straight forward. Check my install thread.

2. I installed over the seam sealer. Went smooth as butter.

3. Air tool tighten and then a bit more with a hand tool.

This. The supplied bolts were shorter than the OEM ones, so I also reused the OEM ones with locktight. I doubt there is an "easier" mod to be had- other than putting on performance wiper blades.

Installed them today. Used the Steeda supplied bolts as they are only a couple threads shorter than OE bolts if the OE bolts were used with their washers. I noticed the OE bolts had what looked like blue thread locker, so I used blue loctite on the Steeda bolts.

I did not remove/trim the seam sealer, just installed it on top as several of you all did. It's super easy to get the car up on 4 jack stands, the easiest of any car I've ever owned now! It looks a little sketchy with the jack stands all inboard but worked well today for my first oil change.

I took a pic while under there of what seems like the seam sealer getting squeezed out the side of the jack rail bracket.

I like to disassemble things.
Those stands are a bit too close for comfort in my view, if you plan on being underneath the car.

It does look sketchy but it was rock solid. I believe this is a common false concern with the Steeda jack rails from what I've seen posted around. I didn't want to put them any further out on the jack rail as the stands wouldn't been sitting on the welds where the tube is welded to the brackets.

Additionally because I was a bit concerned myself, I put 2 more jack stands under the front post-lift points just in case the car shifted or started to fall.

Here's another view of how the stands were set. You can slightly see the weld line on the passenger rail and how I put the stands as close as possible to it. I don't know if I should've worried about it, but the car seemed fine as it was in these pics.

wow it never occured to me that the jacking rails would locate the rear stands so far forward... like someone already commented above, is that safe? especially with so much engine weight up front? :eyebulge:
