I caught a glimpse of an auto stop/start button on the interior shots of the 24's

https://www.ford.com/cmslibs/conten...:content/renditions/cq5dam.web.2160.2160.jpeg

If you look to the right of the push button start, there is an A with a semi circle around it, that is the symbol for the auto stop/start.
Geez… that A.S.S. feature sucks…. I had to deal w/ that nonsense in a loaner Ford when I had my prior 2016 S550…. Every damn stoplight the A.S.S. would shut off the loaner car, then it would restart itself once I had to go again…

Even with manually disabling the A.S.S. feature, once the car is shut down, then started up again, the driver has to again manually disable A.S.S. - it won’t stay ā€œdisabledā€ā€¦. I’m sure thereā€˜s a hack available to permanently disable it…

There is, it's called the https://www.autostopeliminator.com/

I have one on my explorer ST, it's great. It changes the A.S.S. to remember the last setting instead of defaulting to on every time you start the car. They typically run 100 bucks, but sometimes you can catch a sale for 75 or 80.

I suspected the 24's would get ASS, the mustang is the only vehicle in the ford line up currently that doesn't have it.

Good to know… I can’t see that feature being of any benefit per the greenies.

I don’t care what anyone says, but that feature puts strain and a beating on the starter… not to mention the internal lubrication coming to a dead stop, draining down, then within 5 mins having to be auto-restarted and pumped through again…. Doing that 25-50x during traffic… daily…can’t be good for the longevity of the starter.

This sort of thing IMO adds significantly to the overall complexity of the vehicle. I understand why they do it but it really makes me crazy.

I'm still waiting to see if its going to have the dreaded cylinder deactivation like the F-150....

Not sure why you would ever think that - engine is way more lubricated than with average person drive to the grocery store as the stops are more or less 30 seconds long. And starters in bazilion cars out there with ASS are just fine - including my F150.

I get it's annoying but reliability fear mongering seems to be about 15 years too late...

My wife's '18 EcoSport has the A/S/S. It upset her as she was concerned the engine would start and cause her to hit the car in front of her at a traffic light. While I assumed this wasn't a concern....I put in one of those A/S/S eliminators.

I only wonder how long until they make the eliminators illegal...

For the 5.0 models? Gonna be funny with aftermarket exhaust starting and stopping...lol!

As for the comments on putting strain on the starter, they put in a heavy duty one with the feature. But ya...I don't like the feature and turn it off when I have a rental or something.

Have had this before in a couple of Toyota Highlanders over the years and they ended up being much more hoopla over nothing. I found if I came to a controlled stop without applying a ton of pressure to the brake pedal, the engine wouldn’t shut off at all. Its funny how one can find new driving habits when they want to.

Just about every mass produced has it. Hell even my friends mclaren has it. I was amazed to find the mustang doesn`t have it when I bought mine.

My issue with it is safety.

When you need to go, there are a few seconds delay until the thing starts and finally takes off.

I’ve had this happen; got rear ended and destroyed a really nice 86 Mustang SVO. Totaled it. Wasn’t because of start/stop but it was because of a delay caused by sitting at a light in neutral rather than in gear. I saw the car behind me coming up fast and by time I got the clutch in, stuffed it into first, wham…all over with. No delay would not have prevented it, but would have very likely lessened the damage to the point where it was repairable. Start/stop is the same way with that delay.

usually a tune can disable it or make it not be the default option.

We really do need to stop discussing the s650 here. There's an entire forum dedicated to it, and that's the place to discuss it.
