Hello all! I hope everyone is staying well. Was looking to buy a new GT500 today and upon inspection, I noticed the side skirt that sticks out has a nasty scratch down it as see in the attached picture. I was asking the dealer to replace it if I bought the car. They were trying to find the part number for this piece. Anyone know if the whole side skirt that goes down the entire side of the car has to be replaced to replace the piece that’s scratched or if they sell the sticking out scratched piece separately? They couldn’t seem to find the outer piece in the Ford parts system.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

I believe it’s attached to the side skirt and the whole skirt will need to be replaced

It should be a part that attaches to the skirt, comes with the handling package. I’m not sure if it’s riveted on like the front splitter though.

I believe it’s on all 500s, even without the handling package. @Tomster i think looked into it and would know

oh yeah, sorry I confused it with the splitter wickers. It’s on all 500s.

looks like it may be four push pins and two screws. Same design as all the other s550 side splitter extension for skirts. At work right now or id go confirm it.

Thank you for the guidance. So it likely comes with the long side skirt/splitter if a dealer has to order one? I wasn’t sure if you could just order the extension piece separately. They didn’t seem to be able to find a separate part in their system or any confirmation it comes with the full skirt. Thank you again!

Is this a new car? If it is, Ford should replace it without cost to the dealer.

It is a new car. Dealer has to note any damage upon delivery or they bear the responsibility for the cost. That’s what the policy is for most manufactures anyway. It sounded like they were past the time to claim it. Likely happened when their lot tech took a rock in his towel across it when cleaning it. Just a pain in the rear. The dealer is worried about having to eat the cost if it’s outrageous, so they wanted to confirm cost first. I’ll likely pass on the car unless they get it replaced before I pick it up.

My (U.K.) dealer told me the deadline for reporting delivery faults is 30 days from it arriving at their location :like:

And even then, I’ve been surprised what gets pushed back to the dealer ...

I like to disassemble things.

Won't or didn't the dealer already make an "outrageous" profit on the car?

It’s definitely a profitable deal. I think they have heard horror stories of having to replace carbon fiber bits for outrageous money. Of course, this is just a plastic piece, so probably shouldn’t be a concern. They should replace it whether I buy it or not, but let’s face it, if I pass, they’ll throw some armor all on it and send it on down the road. 😊🦊

this is a no brainer. Make them agree to replace it if you purchase it.

So the dealer said they talked to Ford and they told them that piece is all one and connected to the lower rockers. They said they told them you order the whole piece and the unpainted rockers for around $1500. That seems crazy to me that they are all connected and can’t be ordered separately, as I believe you can feel screws connecting the damaged piece to the long piece, amongst other connectors for the longer plastic piece above it. I believe there are aftermarket options for the side splitter that are easier than that to replace. Does anyone know if this is really true? And perhaps have a part number the dealer can reference for what needs to be ordered? Just surprised the dealer can’t seem to get a good answer from someone at Ford or maybe they aren’t explaining it correctly.

Thank you again for the guidance.

No, I believe it is true.

Why isn't the dealership fixing this? Do they really think you or someone else is going to buy this and pay to have it fixed on their own?

This makes no sense.
