You can get a brand new short block from Ford for $1800+ core. No need to change the rods for a engine that will only see 1000whp a couple of times. If you want to live at 1000whp than yes. Bearings $100 Mahle drop in pistons $800. $2700 no balance needed $3400 With the right rods no balancing needed
if you are doing pistons and rods then it s cheaper to start with bare block($800) and crank ($300)
$1100 << $1800 and no core needed .
$2700 plus labor (if needed )is cheapest option .

when would you need main studs ?
That will add $250 plus extra $250 for maching

I never said one was a better option than the other. just that they are options

Again, what are these "right" forged aftermarket rods that don't need balancing?

I'm following this with great fascination. The last engine I built was a 427 MR stroked with a 428CJ crankshaft 40 years ago. I bet I spent 6,500 on components for that engine including machining.

That's 40 years ago doing the work myself. These prices are amazing even when you put the blower on top of it. So, what, 12K with a Whipple/Procharger and making 1K at the crank or more?
Running on E85 which you get at a good many gas stations.

You youngsters can really make some safe power on a street car. Just amazing!

Now that I'm retired, I might just have to build a Coyote. Still got all my mics and tools from those days.

Compstar rods only need 5grams removed from the big end to be in spec with boss crankshaft and Mahle pistons. Boostline rods need nothing. Remember they don’t have to weight the same. They have to have a bob weight within spec. Compstar rods are heavier on the big end but lighter on the small end. This makes a big difference for bob weight

are you friggin kidding me... Tim@MPR had to add 2 heavy slugs to a brand new crank for my boostline rods.. The wiecso rods are very heavy for what they are. why would you try to nickle and dime a performance build. even my brand new block needed machining as they are not square from the factory. I'm all for saving cash, but some times you gotta pay to play. I've been a professional wrench for 20yrs and I know when I'm being taken advantage of. I had no intentions of spending money on brand new block until I was educated. And I'm local so me and tim, which I have used in the past had a face to face and showed me how even new parts need work... espesically when your shooting for 4 digit numbers.

I think we are getting spoiled with these coyotes. 700 safe HP with stock block and internals.
