Did you have to look at the post with the engine dimensions? The Coyote isn't far off from the 427.
That 427 is OHV. The one you were referring to earlier, the Boss/Hurricane 6.2, is OHC... It's very large, heavy, and compared to the Coyote platform it's quite unrefined and inefficient.

Are you talking about exterior dimensions? A modern DOHC 427 would be MASSIVE.

Based on how well the Coyote handles boost, I suspect we will see a version of that on the GT500. S/C or turbo and exact displacement/configuration will be interesting to see.

Here is my latest guess:
Voodoo based block (5.2 liters, PTWA cylinder lining)
Twin Turbo
Flat Plane Crank (allows even exhaust pulses to better drive the turbos)
Lower RPM piston design (more meat for piston rings and skirt area)
Lower RPM Rod design (stouter, to handle more low-end torque)

I never thought they'd do the FPC for the GT350, but now that they have, I think they will want to use that learning in other applications, and the GT500 would be a great place.

I could also see a similar engine, but using a cross plane crank (to maintain the sweet V8 rumble) with a PD blower. This might be a more likely choice given the history of the car.

I'd prefer the latter.......5.2 with a cross plan crank........got to have that deep, deep rumble :thumbsup:

I can agree with that. The Coyote is about as good as American v8's get, but I guarantee you that if you started with a 6.2L aluminum block and stroked it, then put Coyote magic specific for a larger application you would not have a huge amount of weight gain and still make massive power.

Remember, folks said the 5.4L would be too much for the 2007 Shelby as far as weight and dimensions but Ford made it work, even with a CI block.

For the next gen GT500, I would totally be down with a biturbo, 5.2L FP crank!
That would harken back to the still formidable Ferrari F40, a car with performance that was a bit ahead of its time and still impressive today.
I had an 08 GT500 for 6 years and loved the 5.4 motor, even though it was a heavy, iron lump! That motor was so mod friendly and just a pleasure to beat on!
But a free revving, boosted, all aluminum, flat plane torque beast would be sick and capable of some serious power from the factory, and then you factor in aftermarket mods.......wow! I bet you would see some ridiculous times being achieved at the Texas mile.
Personally, I don't see Ford going much, or any larger than the current 5.2. The 5.8 Condor may have been the last hurrah of that size motor, the days of big cubes are gone and Ford has been leading that way with the domestics for some time now. Smaller, more efficient engineering now coupled with turbo technology is the future. Yeah, you lose the traditional lumpy V8 burble, but all is forgotten when you put your foot in it and are pinned to the seat.
Some of us had to endure decades of mediocre performance once the days of the muscle car ended, and hear we are again, in a golden age of vehicle performance, and as they say, nothing can last forever, so enjoy the awesome products that Ford is turning out for us. Whatever they do for the GT500 it will be great. I'll be ready in just shy of 2 years for a new ride and as of now, I'm not sure what to get! With the GT350, Focus RS, and eventually the GT500 on the table.......decisions, decisions!

I love the sound of the Ford v8s.

I think the 4.6 DOHC sounded the best despite its anemic characteristics (naturally aspirated).

But I think Ford is just giving us the traditional sound to carry the fpc over the hump in transition.

I'm guessing they are seriously restricting the engine with that crazy header design (which likely is a huge part of the American style exhaust note).

But I wouldn't be surprised that by the time the gt500 comes out, we may be hearing a little more Ferrari coming from our tailpipes.

I honestly hope note. I want a GT500 to rattle my internal organs, not sound like a demented, angry wasp :p

I don't know, the sound of a 458 at speed or under hard acceleration is pretty damn awesome! Plus, my current GT500 is teeth rattlingly loud. Headers/Off road H pipe/cam'd/borla sport = loud.
