I was doing some pulls on the highway with my cousin and he told me to stop hitting the rev limiter so much. I have a 2018 10 spd automatic. The car automatically shifts at 7400rpms exactly. This is just shifting at redline correct? I don't think this is bad and considered "banging" the rev limiter. Unless my understanding of banging the car off the rev limiter is different?

Your cousin sounds like he's 15 with a broccoli hair cut. I mean this out of respect.

If the car is stock then yea you cant hit the rev limiter while in drive, but if you are tuned, or boosted, its possible the tranny is shifting at the wrong point due to 10spd things

If you're letting the car shift for itself then you are absolutely not hitting the rev limiter. It may be shifting at, or just before, redlime, idk what it's programed to do.
If you want to experience the rev limiter, put the car in sport mode and shift it with the paddles. Be a little late on the shift and you will have absolutely no doubt when you hit the rev limiter. The car will fall flat on its face when the computer chops everything back. It's unmistakable.

A stock automatic will never hit the rev limiter in auto mode.
You seem to be unsure whether you were indeed banging off the rev limiter of not. This means you weren't. If you really had been, then you would have certainly known. When the rev limiter kicks in, there's a sudden, violent jolt, as if the car were broken. It's a horrible sensation. You would certainly know.

Yes, I experienced it for the first time the other week when I had it in Sport mode and "forgot" that I had touched one of the paddles before taking off from the next stop sign. Scared the heck out of me when it engine quit and there was an amber light on the dash that flashed.
