Rev limiter

Can you guy explain how the rev limiter works and does tachometer only turn red at red line with the light on only ?

I'd also like to know about the red tach. I've only seen it turn red once and it was on a fairly cloudy day (my lights are on auto so I'm not sure if they were on or not) so maybe the lights need to be on? :shrug:

From what I understand, the rev limiter purpose is not to allow you to over rev your vehicle pass its safe limit. Is there basically to protect you engine. As far as the tachometer, it does only turn on at the red line.

Rev limiter is the computer pulls spark or fuel during ACCELERATING when the rpm reaches the limit. It however does not protect the engine from over-revving due to improper gear change when downshifting. So, if you accidentally threw the shifter in 2nd instead of 4th doing 100mph, the engine will over rev and bend the valves and there is nothing to help that.

Through you car in neutral (auto or manual) and floor it!!! You can freely go well above 6,500 RPM without limitation.

Tach light only turns red @ redline when the lights are on. I couldn't figure this out when I first got my car and I hit the limiter a couple times during the day.

I figured as much. I have yet to hit the limiter but i was getting fairly close to the line one day during daylight with the lights off and I didn't notice the red lighting.
