Why can't you just wrap a piece of tape right under the stock knob.
You don't have to at all. You just put the car in reverse, and thread the knob until it hits the reverse lockout, and undo it from there until the gear letters are correct. You can count how many turns to completely undo it, and that's how much you can turn the locknut, and go from there. I'd definitely spend the time to just do it with the locknut, before considering blue loctite. Another thing I'll probably do to make the knob fit tighter is wrap the threads with teflon tape.

That might help you make a weight guess compared to the all resin Bullitt knob :like:
I don't think so man. The Bullitt seems to have quite a bit more material. That FP looks hollowed beyond the threads, no? Can't you just weigh yours??? :) I'd greatly appreciate that. But if not, hopefully somebody can do that before installing it.

The best way to secure your new shift ball once and for all. Buy a 12mm or required size nut at the hardware store. Grind the nut down to half it's size on a grinder , now you have a thin LOCK nut. Apply the nut , apply the new ball tighten it to align the pattern and with an open end wrench snug the new lock nut and you are done forever. ....No tape , no loctite just common sense.

This ^, but there’s no need to grind the nut down if he uses a jam nut. They’re super thin.

Hey, you can't do that; otherwise you'd be able to see the damn nut from the side. Ha ha. The nut ends up INSIDE the locknut cavity. And since it's pretty deep, there's zero issues using the supplied nut. The trick is that the ball touches the locknut like maybe 1/16th of a turn of where you want it (before shift pattern is straight), and then tighten it hard. If it's too little, back the nut up a hair. If it's too much, screw it down a hair. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to get it right.

And nobody posted the weight of the Ford Racing knob, which I assume weighs the same as the Ford Performance, right? The only weight posted (377g) was of an aftermarket knob that is sold in several colors. Not interested on that. And 0.83-lb might be a bit too much, no?

Hi folks
I'm picking up a 2019 GT PP2 and really want to replace the stock shift knob with the black "Ford Performance" one.
Are they all the same?
How hard to install?
What vendor here sells it?

Nice wheels. I did the Ford knob as well but I wanted the old School ā€œracing ā€œ one my 19 PP2 and it was super easy. I purchasEd from Summit Racing when they had a spend $200 and get $25 back sale.

I used a CJ pony part video to guide me took about 15 minutes with blue loctite. I let it cure overnight and what an improvement over stock for look and feel. No issues 1 year later.

Read many negative reviews at American Muscle, which also has it for $60 something dlls. Some said it was lighter than the regular stock knob, which for sure is lighter than the Bullitt one, so I'm suspecting it's lighter than the Bullitt for sure. But most of the negative reviews were from crappy craftsmanship of the white paint, and a few of a marred finish. The Bullitt knob is flawless, and heavy enough, so unless I find out the FP is at least as heavy, won't even risk being disappointed, and just keep the stock knob.

The Bullitt knob is probably the heaviest knob available for the Mustang. However, although my Steeda knob is very light, it doesn’t have any negative effects on shifting. Lastly, after having handled and studied both, the Steeda knob’s construction is much better than the Bullitt knob IMO.

I was looking for the Bullitt knob weight, and ran into this good looking knob, in case anybody is interested: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https://www.shopmrt.com/01-08-09-19-Mustang-SpecialEdition-Bullitt-Shifter-p/mrt-475.htm&psig=AOvVaw0Rs5v2fBQIqGTrczH84vYe&ust=1616346553689000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCJi5yaOuv-8CFQAAAAAdAAAAABAE
I like to have the shift pattern, so it's not for me, but looks very nice. They can be black or green, and price (same as the FP) includes your Bullitt plaque # (you can add the K or L). No word on the weight, though; just diameter of 2-1/4", which is larger than the Bullitt's 2" ball, so I wouldn't like that either. Click on 'larger photo' for 3 more.

I'm going to research the heavy knobs Vlad posted on post #14, and see if they make it in a more matching shade of black (maybe satin?) for the interior, since the FP one is most likely lighter than mine.
EDIT: Those balls are S/S, which wouldn't feel nice in the extreme TX summers, so they're out. Guess it can't get any better than the 2" Bullitt knob as far as weight, since it's probably the limit a resin knob can weigh. If somebody measures the FP knob and it weighs the same as the Bullitt, then I'd buy that one. Thanks gang.

I really liked having mine in the car. It’s weighted. I dont have a shift pattern so I just snugged it down. I didn’t use locktite or a jam nut. And I just posted mine for sale in miscellaneous as I’m selling my car.

Depends on how you shift into reverse. If it has a lock out collar you need one that work with it. Blue threadlocker. Give time to cure.

I used the Roush white knob with the suppiled Loctite and it worked a treat. I did end up having to replace the reverse lockout a while later as it broke into pieces. I don't think changing the knob was the reason but I would suggest anyone ( with a manual ) change the lockout knob at the same time ( a little difficult but worth it ) as the metal ones are so much better than the plastic chrome plated original. Just a thought.

Hey WD pr
I put the FP knob on with nothing more than blue loctite (243).

I put it in reverse so the collar was up, screwed it down, then backed it off until the engraving was approx level, put it in third, levelled it fully and then let it sit overnight.

My OE knob was secured with nothing more than loctite and it was ā€˜shit I’m going to break it’ tight.

Hey WD Pro,

just installed my X-spec few days back and since then I've been struggling to unscrew the shitty Roush ball !!! it is firmly stuck and tried every possible way ? Any advice would be appreciated.

So the car is hanging out with the MGW stick and driving it in that status is real pain!
Thanks!
