100%. Factory .009-.012” ring gaps with 700+whp on gasoline don’t like long pulls or multiple back to back pulls on gasoline. Ask me how I know.
turning up any coyote should start with ring gaps

Kinda crazy and counterintuitive that something as small and simple can set off a chain of events that destroy a motor right?

One would think the automotive industry would have developed rings that insert into itself and purposefully overlap (creating a better seal than with a gap) so it can accommodate a much wider range of expansion and contraction.

Total seal gapless rings fit that description.

Please expand/educate me (and others). I have total seal rings in my motor, I'll have to call and see if they're that.
They aren’t. Probably Total Seal AP rings. With stainless top ring.

Sorry if I’m posting in the wrong place. First timer. So I broke another cylinder #8 ringland. I’m out of warranty this time. So I’m gonna be ordering a new shortblock. But I’m just trying to make sure I don’t forget anything. Assuming with a broken ringland there may be debris through the engine oil passages, what all do I need to clean, replace or look out for while moving everything to the new block? Thanks for any tips/info!
I am sure others have told you, ring lands breaking is usually caused by detonation. Their are people running the Gen 3 to 1000hp with good luck. Detonation, lean conditions are death to pistons. One of the reasons I didn't get a Challenger SRT was every shop I talked to tolde the max HP on those before piston ring land failure was around 600 HP. Every single builder said the Gen 3 was a extremely OEM built engine which can handle doubling it's HP without much issues as long as al things match your HP limits, fuel system, tune etc. Good luck

Some are as low as 8 thou.

Great for N/A, but bad for heat and boost lol

99% of them are on 60%+ Ethanol fuel, or WMI…….

Big boost with stock ring gaps is begging for a ringland failure. Even some on Ethanol have had ringland failures because how tight they are.

Mine has been on E85 testing 87% or higher the entire time, still broke again. It has to be just that. Too tight of ring gap.
