" Absorbed glass mat (AGM) batteries are a type of sealed lead-acid battery designed to provide superior power delivery and storage capacity, and are known for excellent vibration resistance and an ability to withstand deep power discharges without sustaining long-term damage. "

Modern vehicles have so much electronics going on that mfg have gone to using them. Asked my Ford dealer about this and he said I wouldn't believe how many batteries they have had to replace in new vehicles. My 23 Bronco Sport has auto stop/start and I can tell when my battery is getting low as the feature stops working and I get the symbol in the dash cluster letting me know that. As the battery power goes done the vehicle starts shutting features off. If it is not going to be used for several days I put it on a battery tender and that seems to help. I change out batteries every 3-4 years and consider it a maintenance issue.

I know I will jinx myself for mentioning this but I currently have an Ever Start Maxx 24F battery, in my 06 Tundra, that I bought in August of 18...6.3yrs and still going. The Ever Start Maxx at Wal Mart and the Duracell from Sam's typically sell for around $140-$150 in my area.

I should have added that I have a load tester and I check the batteries periodically and if they are marginal I just replace them.

Anyone use Lithium batteries? Seems like a good way to shave some weight. My only worry is that some don't play nice with some car's electronics.

That s was my concern with anything other than an OEM spec replacement.

A buddy of mine just replaced the battery in his 16 GT350 with the specified Motorcraft battery from Ford. It is a smaller and lighter battery, I would guess 25% smaller, than the 96R's that our cars use. Spins his GT350 over with no issues and is definitely smaller and lighter.

I was told by a Ford tech that the FPC in the 350's require less cranking amperage than cross plane crank engines. Seems reasonable, but have not researched that any further. That said, when needed, I will likely go with the smaller and lighter OEM battery for my 350.

I was still running the OEM battery in my 21 GT/CS until this past September. Replaced it with same OEM Motorcraft out of caution when it was slow to turn over. That replacement started having issues last week. Every other day I had to jump start it. Kept going into deep sleep mode. Brought stang to Ford and they found low voltage codes and battery failed load test. Alternator test passed. Ford replaced battery under warranty. I'm good for now. May put on trickle charger over the winter while its off the road.

Yeah, use trickle charger battery maintainer or disconnect battery during storage period.

I know it's mostly semantics, but...
You don't really want a trickle charger. You want a battery maintainer. A true trickle charger can over charge and damage a battery where a maintainer has circuitry to keep it charged without overcharging or damage.
I'm not sure you can even buy a trickle charger any more but, I for one, still have a couple laying around. I should probably toss them out.

I have a Garmin dash cam connected since car was new. Ford said it may be causing battery to decay. I've had it powered up for over 3 years on original battery with no issues. Funny how 2nd battery died in weeks after installed. The Garmin has a parking feature which puts cam in sleep mode while car is parked. I'll need to check Garmin settings and keep an eye on it but can't believe the Garmin caused battery to decay so quickly unless its failing. Surprised they warranted the 2nd battery.
