You do not need absolutely anything to protect pinch welds - that's complete nonsense from the "you absolutely need jacking rails, otherwise you're going to die" crowd. There are literally millions of cars on the roads being lifted every day by their pinch welds in service shops. And they're fine. In fact, I lift my 54 year old car by pinch welds and it's fine.
What you need for quick jack is something to protect the rubber blocks from being split by the pinch welds - with car that heavy, they eventually will and set is like $80. Either rails or jacking pads work fine for that purpose.
My lift pads arrived a couple of days ago. I'm surprised by how small they actually are but they are well built and solid and look like they should do the job just fine. A lot lighter than jacking rails. Put a quarter in pics for size perspective.Yes - I have them - work just fine.
Are you going to use with QJ? If so review please? My lift pads arrived a couple of days ago. Costco has free shipping. This really is a good thread and it's convinced me to go ahead and pull the trigger on getting a QJ.... unfortunately there are none in any Costco in my region, so I'll have to buy online and chew on shipping....oh well....
I do have a question that I've not seen answered so far.... I don't have a lot of room to play with front to back, or nose to tail, in my garage. Does anyone know what the swing distance is from all the way down to all the way up and locked? I try to maximize the area in front of the car by putting the rear bumper just inside the garage door. Thanks....
Thanks, I would have guessed a lot more swing....that's virtually straight up!Costco has free shipping.
Per manual the swing is ~7" IIRC. You can point the QJ so the swing is towards or away from the garage door.
You're right. Manual says 11"-15" depending on model. The actual swing (QJ calls it radial shift) will be somewhat less due to movement before contacting the lifting points. Thanks, I would have guessed a lot more swing....that's virtually straight up!
Thanks, I'm planning on doing the latter...having the car outside and swing in upon lifting. I've got a stop in right now so that the rear end will just clear the door closing. Either will put in a second (closer) bump or maybe just move mine forward 10" that should work. Thank you for the shift info....You're right. Manual says 11"-15" depending on model. Assuming a car will fit in a garage with the door closed, any swing MAY make it impossible to lift or lower with the garage door closed, but won't keep the door from closing after lift if clearance is tight IF the car is slightly outside the garage before lifting and the QJ is positioned to swing the car into the garage.
Will edit my original post.
