anything behind the rear tires?
no. I asked my guy about it but the mudflaps on the rear of the HP give enough protection at least for street driving so I didn’t worry about it.

I had a car that had PPF'd portion of the front of the hood. The seam picked up dirt and became quite visible. Also, in the winter the snow chipped the very edge of the film as well.

YMMV
With the edges tucked it shouldnt

The film should be wrapped around the edge of the panel and tucked on the backside so there is no seam visible. Makes for a cleaner installation and should prevent the edge from showing dirt. You shouldn’t have an exposed edge along the front of the hood. It should be wrapped around the edge to the underside of the hood

I described it poorly. The edge where the PPF stopped about 1/3 the way up the hood. Similar to this image. Notice the line where the PPF stops and chip out of the end of the PPF?

Ah gotcha. I can assure you there is no chip out of the PPF however it may appear in the picture. What I think you are looking at is where they cut the film and shaped it to have a rounded corner instead of a sharp edge. I think it was done to look nicer but I can’t say for certain.

*edit* I can only speak to my car but I don’t anticipate any dirt on edges. It doesn’t get outside except in good weather and it gets washed every couple hundred miles lol. What you were describing could very well be an issue on cars that don’t get cleaned often enough to prevent dirt build up.

Just wanted to point out that ppf over the matte hood stripe might vary depending on what color your car is. The texture on FJ grey car stripes is much smoother than red cars. I recently applied ppf over my hood stripe and it began to form tiny air bubbles that don't look good. Hope they go away with time, but I plan on trimming around if it doesn't. Anyone else have similar results?

The texture of the graphic should be the same regardless of color. Something seems wrong with the PPF application here. I would be tempted to have them get that off ASAP. It should come off anyway and perhaps the sooner it does the less likely it will damage the hood stripe

Definitely tempted, but I'd be more happier if the bubbles went away. Gonna give it a little more time since it's been only a few days. I was at the local dealership and ran my hand across the stripes on a FJ grey and the surface is definitely smoother. The stripe on my car has a bit more rough texture. Hard to see this, but you can almost tell from how the light reflects off the surface. Here's some photos before the ppf was applied.

I know there have been a few folks that have ppf'd over stripes here, but anyone ppf over a matte stripe with the white outline. Experience similar results? Thanks

Any chance the surface of one car had been prepped? Something like a clay bar and the other was not?
it just seems strange to me Ford would go to the trouble (ie expense) of having 2 different stripes.

I don't think that will go away and don't see any point in waiting. I'd take it back to the shop as soon as possible, lest they try to blame you for anything. Maybe there's still a chance to get the PPF off without taking the mach1 decal of at the same time, but I doubt that too.
