Hi All -

I remember seeing a thread describing the different applications for the Cup 2's. If I remember correctly, someone purchased a set that was manufactured to the Porsche specification and the fitment was not correct. Does anyone have a link to this post? I've tried searching multiple times and can't seem to locate it. I think the thread also described how the ford spec tires had a "FP" cast into the sidewall??

Thank you for your help.

There are a few different specs of cup twos with different sidewall ratings, including a Porche spec. People have run them before without any issue as far as I know.

The 350R used/uses cup 2’s that were already on the market when the car came to fruition. They’re a stickier compound, commonly referred to as an R compound Cup 2. The tires were so popular that ford decided they wanted to ditch the super sports for the non-R gt350 for 2019, so they worked with Michelin to produce the 305/35 and 295/35 to fit the 350 rims (A size that didn’t yet exist in the cup 2 lineup.). These tires have the FP on the side of them.

Since the 350 is less track oriented than the 350R, Ford went with a compound that was less sticky than the R cup 2’s, so they’d last longer and be slightly more compliant on the street.

Hope that helps a little.

Thank you Skye and John. Very helpful information. I was not aware there is a different rubber compound between the base 350 Cup 2 and the "R" Cup 2.

My real question is: How do you know you are ordering the exact same factory spec. tire Ford originally installed on the Shelby "R" model? Is it assumed that when you order the specific sizes for a 350R, by default it's the same rubber compound?

So when I look on TireRack.com, for example, the tires they list for my fitment (305 and 315) are the "R" compound?

On tire rack, it’ll specifically say Porche spec if they’re Porche spec. Otherwise you’re correct, putting in the same size should match you to the correct tire. You should also verify by matching up the load rating of your current tires to the ones you’re about to buy. I think there’s a 98y and 102y….. I can’t remember, it’s been a while.

And you don't have to worry about accidentially getting a Porsche tire as none are available anywhere. Trust me. I wanted a set and searched for a month. Nada.
