How did you tell how much life is left on the sc2. I have a track weekend coming up and I don't and to run out of tired in the middle.

Is once the outside tread gone it done?

Outside thread goes away very quickly on cup2s.. you should be fine.. id just check the tire after each session. I usually run em till they get corded.. they dont last too long.. maybe 3 full track days..

Which specific Cup2s are you talking about? the 305 98Y, the 305 102Y (Porsche spec), or the 315 100Y tire?

I've run through 2 sets of the 98Y 305s and never gotten more than 4 days out of them (they started chunking). The 102Ys seem to offer 50-75% longer life from what some buddies have told me.

whats been your experience with the higher load rating? All the michelin dealers around me cant even get the 98Y rated tires.

Yeah I've wondered for a mostly street driven car if the Porsche spec tires might be a better compromise than the stock R ones.

I got 2,000 miles and 4 full track days before chords. I am usually one of the fastest cars in advanced group and push it. I don't have camber plates but swap left and right sides to help even wear.

Hmm mine don't look that bad. I have a square setup and rotate. I would guess I have 3 days and maybe 600 miles on them outside if the track.

Tire life and track days depends on numerous factors. How hard you push, the track you run on, etc, etc...

I'd recommend the FP track alignment at the very least to help extend the life of the outer shoulders of the Cup 2's.

Running a set of stock Cup 2's @ NCCAR and the tires are toast after 8 sessions. I'm on 12 sessions on m6 last set of Cup 2's on a square set up and should have another 8 sessions.

3 sets of Cup 2's in 4k miles so far (plus I have a set of MOrE's that I use for my rain set up).

Ya, there are a lot of factors. My last day with pics above was waterford hills which is an older track with concrete in corners (is getttjf all new asphalt now) which is why mine shredded. This was actually my fifth event, but only did 3 of 5 sessions and had two half days in the rain so really count as four full aggressive 5 session days probably.

I mentioned my driving style bc there is another R in a middle run group which similar days and much better tires but his lap times are way way more conservative. My front brake pads will probably be shot after 6 days for example, his looked brand new. Driving style is a big factor.

I was more looking for visual indicators:) something I can look for on the tire.

I know it depends on the driver. I will probably have one day on them before the weekend but I hate to throw away tires that have life on them.

like most posters said above

1. you 100% need camber plates up front, the ford recommended spec is not enough. i ran close to -3 up front, -2 at the back
2. get the 102Y Porsche spec, the 98Y is a lot thinner than the 102Y and our cars are heavy. My 98Y fronts are pretty much done after 3 weekends (6 days at a track very brake friendly and long corners)
3. you can run 325 Porsche spec on the rear if you have R spec rims.
4. outside wears really quick

overall I am very happy with cup 2s the grip is unreal when new, only downside is the first 50% of the meat on the outside ran out super quick. the last 50% is "tougher" than the first 1/2.

I haven't personally run them. If I stick with Cup2s for the next set, I'll be getting a set, though. I know a few guys running them and their life is excellent (7+ days).

In my experience, when the outer-most rain channel/tread starts to disappear/flatten, you've got a day of medium-hard use, 2 days of light use. As you can see in the pic below, once the rubber on each side of the channel starts to lose that ridge/step (like on the other channel, it starts to chunk.
