Do you all think we will see Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires available for the base GT350?

How much of a performance increase do you think Cup 2's would provide over Super Pilots on a base GT350?
Any experienced GT350/R track guys care to comment?
Would this close the gap too much between the base and R? Base still would be +100lbs heaver with 52lbs of that in unsprung wheel weight.

Will we see other tire options at some point? Pirelli? Dunlop? Not complaining, luv Michelin Super Pilots, just curious...

can get 6GR wheels in R spec and use the same tires, and drop some weight over the stock wheels

350R still has more downforce but a lot of the difference would be taken up from the switch to the R tires and wheels of the same width as an R.

You won't see them from the factory, but there's nothing stopping anyone from putting them on afterwards. I think some lightweight wheels and r-comps would make the standard GT350 very close to the R in performance.

I would think more than that, the base 350 probably is 90 to 95 %, with light weight rims, i'd guess at least 95 to 98%. I'm talking about overall track times here.

Agreed! By far the biggest advantageous difference is the wheels and tires.

If you want to be close to an R definitely lose weight, aluminum DS, remove rear seats, heck remove front seats too and buy a track focused seat. I would opt for the next step up in terms of tires, maybe trofeo R. Or just some good old slicks from hoosier or michelin.

I vote slicks, specially if you can trailer the car in!

Square off with some lightweight wheels and some tires like RS3's or AD08R's 305/30-19. SC2's are a great tire yes but goddamn are they expensive...

I have FORGELINE GA1R 11x19 open lugs and pilot sport cup 2's 305/30ZR19s on my car. They weigh 14 pounds less then the stock gt350 wheels and 1 to 1.5 pounds more then the R. I removed nearly 200 pounds from my track pack car. Well will once my seats and carbon driveshaft arrive.

Damn, I can't wait to see you take your modded normally aspirated voodoo to the track. When and where are you contemplating hitting some road racing circuits? Would love to see how she performs with all of your mods.

I'm going to run a set at BIR in a couple weeks. I would run R7s, but the R spec wheels are still a ways out. I didn't want to wait to get my car on track until they arrive, but a 315 R7 is too big for the stock front wheel. I'll let you know how they perform.

As far as lap time differences between the GT350 and the R, they'll be minimal when both are on R spec 25 lb wheels and running R7s. The aero will still be a slight advantage, but outside of that it should be pretty close. Most guys will be running a roll bar and no back seat so the weight will be similar as well. I wouldn't recommend putting an aluminum DS on there and tracking the car if you don't want that Voodoo to vibrate itself apart. ;)
