I’m kind of curious about this. Let’s say your RH was taken off appropriately, then your LH was taken off with the keyway at 4 o’clock instead 5 o’clock as they’re very close. Then you put everything back on appropriately and hand turn the engine without any issues. Would this small of a difference throw timing codes? How much can the cam position sensors and ecu allow as the keyway position isn’t going to be 100% exact but very close depending on your subjective angle. Maybe this is what happened? Enough to throw a code but not ruin valves / pistons
I’ve seen this done and it runs like shit

And impact should take the bolt off of your balancer without any trouble. unless you used red Loctite

yea I was thinking of just using my broken belt and tie it around the pulley and something else to Take the bolt off.

I used spacers on the original bolt and kept on going smaller until I couldn’t anymore to get the pully flushed as I could.

yes I did exactly that. But I remember when doing the DS chain it looked like it jumped a tooth when I turned it to take slack out of the chain
Curious. When you first thought your Timing chain jumped a tooth, DID you the turn the crank checking all of the timing marks accordantly. Some times I've seen where you have to remove the chains, aligh crank, cams IAW procedures, reinstall the chains again following the OEM procedures?

no loctite. I just Hand tighten it in. Cause I knew I was going to have to take it off again.

no I did not. I just followed the Ford manual. It didn’t mention anything about verifying the timeing. Is there some guide for that ? So if I go back in. I can verify the timing this time.

If the key is really missing out of the crank you probably bent valves. You might be able to compression test. if your timing is right and the valves aren’t bent you’ll have compression. If valves are bent or timing is wrong it won’t. Does it sound like it has compression when it turns over?

Not sure if I’m following. Highly doubt I have any bent valves since I haven’t been driving it. No key is missing. How can I tell if it has compression when I turn it ?

You talking 15-17 ? Its a fluid damper. How the hell does it stretch ? 18+ Ford cheaped out and went with a bonded damper.
No I have an 18+. The harmonic balancer was replaced with the updated version Ford made for the newer years.

You already ran the motor. How does it sound? You would know if you bent a valve. You can do damage though if timing is off.

did you watch the video?

I would do the crank relearn but I doubt that will clear the code. Did you have any issues with the pick tube and the Oring?

yes I watched the video. Only thing I didn’t do was count the links after install to check if it was time correctly. And the car sounded stock at idle. Nothing out of the ordinary.

no issues. If crank relearn doesn’t work. Then I’m going to begin the tear down process

Decided to give you guys a update. I re timed the chains and almost done with install. Things should be looking good now. Will fire her up this week.
question about the harmonic balancer though. How can you tell it’s on all the way?

Was your timing off? Balancer typically seat and will not seat any more. That being said you can probably find a measurement online from the balancer to the block.
