Concluding first year with the Mach 1. Nearly 12k miles. Oil level I check every 4-6 weeks. First year including break-in period the car has burned just less than 1 liter (quart) of motor oil. It also seems to burn less oil in the last few months. I would be surprised if it used 2/3 of a liter (quart) this year following the trend.

@2021 Mach 1 Nice work on actually using your Mach! Hope those 12k miles delivered plenty of smiles and engine burbles. :) I like seeing other owners that actually use the car instead of locking it up never to see the light of day.

Now for my rant... LOL. I can't believe that a newer car like yours is burning oil this early in its life. Yes, I realize that plenty of dealers will say, "oh that's normal" to something that is not actually normal. At least you are cognizant that it is happening, you are monitoring/pay attention to your vehicle and changing the oil regularly. You won't have any issues with the car... but this is where I turn into a little b*tch and call out Ford for their poor quality control. New vehicles should never start their life off burning oil; that happens when they 1) weren't build correctly or 2) not maintained correctly [which is not the case here].

I'll get off my soapbox and end by saying OP you more likely won't have many issues with your car as you are a diligent owner. Just keep topping off the oil occasionally. If you decide to keep the car for a long time, I am sure you will enjoy the hell out of it! Fantastic machine and great color you have too.

Back in the day I had an 89 fox body 5.0 that burned a quart every oil change or 3,000 miles.

Bud, I agree with everything you said. These are cars you gotta love with all the warts they come with. I do try and look after the car well, but I agree a road-use vehicle should not be burning oil. All I can do is look after her.

I would add another reason for oil consumption on a new engine. The way an engine is broken in can greatly affect the way it consumes oil. OP, can you share with us your break in procedure?
Enquiring minds would like to know.

That’s pretty good. Mine consumed 1qt per 6k miles second oil change. Seems like it consumed even less this time, I am at 14k miles.

it’s a high revving v8 I think it’s basically burning no oil. Other high performance engines easily burn a quart per 1k miles. Look up BMWs and such.

I'll agree to disagree. BMW isn't exactly a great example as they are money pits as they age anyway.

Maybe I'm just a fool... but my v8 mustangs and v10 viper have never burned ANY oil. 🤔

For the first 1k miles the car was always in Normal mode and driven very gently. No hard acceleration, no winding out gears etc.

As I suspected. The countless threads relating to oil consumption in new cars oftentimes have a similar common denominator. I for one believe in being relatively mellow for the first 200-300 miles. After that I ramp it up that by the time it has 700-800 miles it's time to drive it like I just stole it. It's always worked for me. My M1 has 9k on it now at one year without losing a tablespoon.

Maybe you did, maybe you didn't. My advice is to flog it whenever you can and enjoy it to the nth degree. A little bit of oil consumption never hurt anyone as long as they remained vigilant maintaining proper oil levels.

What! I broke it in right and drove like I stole. Curious are you driving it like a grandma or are you revving it up as intended? lol
