So, I updated my Sync and Navi today via USB, and it appears to have worked. However, I don't have an XML file on my USB drive to update the Ford system so it won't keep telling me I have updates available.

Is this something that will eventually resolve or will I need to do something else with the USB drive?
One of the TAR.GZ files in the update package is meant to give Sync instructions on how to create the XML at the end. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, not all update packages contain this file. They're supposed to, but not all do. And if they don't, then Sync won't create the XML.
As mentioned above, in Europe you can download a special update package that contains nothing more than this particular TAR.GZ, so that you can generate an XML with your current configuration information at any time. I take it it isn't available on the American update web site. I'll see if I can download and share it somehow.

Here you go. Luckily it's small enough to be attached here. Unzip this file in the root directory of your USB thumb drive just like you did with the update package. It will generate the XML file.

Well shivvy my timbers. I did get a .XML file when I did my last update last month. I remember now the website did not accept it at that time. Well I tried again, and voila, it worked.

Well, I tried out the file that Vlad provided and it created the XML file. But, it seems to have made no difference when I uploaded it to the Ford site. So I'm still stuck with the system saying I need updates when I'm certain I don't.

Did you get the green check mark saying your upload was accepted? If yes, then it may take a couple of days. Here’s mine

It can take a few days for their systems to update. Four or five days isn't uncommon.
Awesome, thanks. Yes, I did get the green checkmark, so I'll just hang tight.

Mine updated to version 22200 via wifi over the last 2 days. I'm assuming the install uploads some sort of confirmation XML file or similar to the Ford file servers. It's now downloading the maps update.

Yes, if done using WiFi you are good to go with Ford.

Interestingly, mine was already 22200 and is updating over wifi as I type this.

I've tried wi-fi updates before but always had issues; for the last couple I've just downloaded to a thumb drive and gone for a drive. Has the wi-fi update process been upgraded, or do you still have to have the car running in the driveway for the duration?
