So I picked up my new 2022 shadow black gt premium this past weekend. Currently have 430 miles on the odometer. Loving it so far. The only thing that I’m wondering about is how the 10r80 shifts/learns. I had the dealership check the transmission fluid today and it’s right on the mark where it should be. This issue I’m having is a 200-300 rpm flare when it shifts from 4th to 5th. This seems to be worse in the morning. It seems to clear up once the trans gets hot but it took 40 minutes out of my hour commute before the trans temp got above 150 and it started acting more normal. Is this typical behavior on a brand new 10r80 as it learns and gets broken in or is this an issue?

Slip during the shift, the rpm flares up.

I'd watch it. Is it worse with power (as far as more rpm). I had a built trans doing it, and jt had some burnt clutches and bad drum.

Drive it for a 1000k or so. You need to learn the transmission as much as it does you. There's a curve.

Im under 500 miles on mine as well & not liking the 10r80 as much. Especially in sport mode. Even the wife made a comment about how my shifting was smoother on the mt82 than this new one. I would of took it to the dealer by now but its over 4 hours away.

Give it time. Sport requires aggressive driving to appreciate. Try some paddle shifting in normal driving briskly. In a 1k or 2 miles. You won't want any other trans.

Get to know this sticky and put some miles on the car.

Nah.. you can jump into a auto 10 speed in a Camaro and it's spot on from start up to shut down. Fords 10R80 valve body acts like a temperamental 2 year old.

Congrats on your new purchase. The 10R80 transmission on these will be jumpy, jerky, have hard up shifts, etc., before the engine is fully warmed up. On the first start-up of the day, I recommend driving in normal mode until the car is fully warmed up. Then, once the car is fully warmed up, switch over to Sport mode+. See if it makes a difference.

I test drove a Camaro SS with the 10 speed and you are 100% correct. Why can't Ford get their programming right? :(

If the harsh shifting continues, schedule a Service aappintmert. When you get there, don’t just tell the Service Writer the issue and leave…. Tell the Service Writer the problem and request that he/she, a Tech or Shop Foreman goes on a test drive with you. You drive and don’t do a 2-minute around the block drive - take it out on the highway and demo the issue to them. Then let them drive it back so they can experience it too.

Your S550 may need the latest software update, as noted here:

The Ford programming of the A10 is years behind Chevy's programming of the A10. Even simple things like shifting into D from R - clunky/jerky. I got in the habit of putting it momentarily into N before going into R, D, or P. It also got confused in auto mode if you get on it, let up, then get on it again, like it doesn't know what to do, and is unreactive for a couple of seconds; it is also slow to downshift multiple gears in comparison. The paddles are also annoying to use under light throttle/driving use in the Ford A10. 12k+ miles on my '18 GT and none of that got any better. It shifted fast under WOT.

I also very much disliked the touchy gas pedal programming in Sport mode.

My '21 ZL1, on the other hand, perfect in comparison. 650 ft-lbs yet no jerking, no clunkiness, and lightning quick on the downshifts, and the paddle response is better under light throttle/driving.

Agreed don't go into other modes until warmed up. I found the A10 to be a tempremental transmission from new. My experience has been that it gets WAY better the more you drive. Some folks here have said after 1-2 k miles. I would say after 10k miles. Excellent in my HPP when in Track mode, or paddle shifting. I have 30k on the car now, the trans works fine.

I am not having the issues that you describe. I do think the dealer did the trans bulletin thing. The only thing I find out of sorts is the downshift to 3rd when in sport or using paddle shifters.

I agree, Ford could have done better. Still not enough to seat me in a Camaro, even a ZL1.

The new DOHC motor could make me re-interested in Corvettes though.
